Hello Mr. Taber, I enjoyed the video and thank you for sharing your career and thank you for your service! My Uncle Jim was a forest ranger in Greenville South Carolina back in the sixties and seventies. Being from Florida, seeing the forrest and caves were a big deal back then. Enjoy your retiremen...

Re: 03 Swingarm Wanted
Hello Rocky, glad to see you are back riding the Hodakas! What about getting 97 or 98 swingarm and having Hodaka Dave extended it 1-1/2" or 2" longer? Better than stock and your upper chain guide will be in the correct location. Thats what I will do with mine. Richard

Re: HPI ignition
Hey Dirty Rat, nice to hear from you. The instructions state to set it at 2mm BTDC Max at 4mm BTDC, so the stock 2.4mm sounds about right. Hope this unit works as well as the PVLs did.

HPI ignition
I was wondering if anyone has used the HPI ignition that DC Plastics sells and what timing did you use? This going on a combat wombat (modified). Thank you.

Re: Combat Wombat slip fit carb
Hello Victor, Yes my old 95 carb has a lot metal corrosion. Even though I rebuilt it, the reliability is not there using it on a race bike. Thank you for the jet numbers. Richard

Re: Frozen Motor
I used a torch , PB Blaster, and rubber or plastic mallet to get my last top end off. The key is a lot of heat on the outside of the cylinder to expand and soak it with blaster. Start tapping the cylinder but don't break those fins in the process! I then start trying to insert some small wood wedges...

Yes , Tommy stated that the bike was very fast with the Harry Taylor modified motor. I read that Tommy had a flat tire and DNF that race. It would have been cool to see a first place with that one!

Re: Paint color recommendations
The old Ford dark blue engine paint is pretty close to matching the 98 super rat frame color. If you use a paint that has ceramic or epoxy two part spray paint that Eastwood sells, it is very durable.

Re: spoke question
The rear spokes are part number 939211A. These are used on the 93 super rat and combat wombat rear wheels. The 97 super combat spokes are different and will not lace up on the old wombat rims.

Re: PVL on my CW
Hey Rich, The PVL is a really neat ignition system. Make sure you have a separate ground wire going from the frame to the coil. I have also seen others install a ground wire from the cylinder inlet stud to the frame under the tank. Good insurance. Richard

Re: Chain maintenance
The procedure I use for cleaning my standard DID chain after racing mx, is fill a small plastic dish pan with simple green and warm water. Soak the chain and clean with a brass bristle brush. Hose it down with garden hose. Hang the chain and dry it off using an air compressor. After that I spray wel...

Re: Another Paint Question
Hello JackM, I have used the Prevail sprayers on small touch up work. They work well as long as your paint is thinned properly. I suggest that you warm up the can in some very warm water before spraying with. It will increase the pressure so what. The longer you spray with it, the can starts to cool...
