Zinc Plating Shop
The two 94 Wombats I am restoring are rusty from sitting outdoors for many years. Can someone recommend a zinc plating shop in the western US? I want to get a bunch of hardware and small parts re-plated. Thanks.

Make sure to prep all your stuff good before you take it. I alway wire all the washers and bolts on loops so it’s easier for them at the shop. If you know wash pice is hung on a wire, so this way they don’t have to dig around for the little bolts.

I'm in Alaska. There doesn't seem to be any plating shops up here anymore. I can bead blast everything if necessary. Thanks.

Azusa shop is Universal Plating and only does Chrome.
For zinc plating, here's a good shop I use now.
Active Plating, Inc.

Good and reasonable. They ship and they use a local burnishing shop to prep rough parts as needed. Good work- tell them want clear zinc finish.

$65/batch whether it's full or partial. Had a pair of RD350 pipes nickle plated last year for about $150.
The last batch I had done was all the hardware from an Ace 90 and a Chrome tank SR and I was told it was "barely" a full batch.

I sent most of the parts that were originally zinc plated to Active Plating in Santa Ana, CA. They did a nice job. It was more expensive that the shop recommended by Roger above, but my parts were sent to an additional shop for tumbling, which added to the cost. Attached pic of some of the parts.

Be careful with those replated axles. The coating of zinc can increase the diameter enough that they won't go through the bearings.

All I did for prep was degrease them in the solvent tank. I could have bead blasted everything, but the shop
told me they were going to send them out for tumbling & cleaning either way. We discussed the issue of added thickness to parts during re-plating, and they assured me it wouldn't be a problem. I've had to chase the threads on some of the bolts in order to get a nut to thread on smoothly. We will see what happens when assembling the bearings. I've had that problem before on hardware that was re-cadmium plated.
