Re: Road Toad contact points setting puzzle .....
Victor ..... our tanks are different, mine is a 76, maybe a newer style? Also different are the kick starters, mine does not have the loop in it, just a straight arm. For some reason I can't figure out how to post a photo. When I click on the add a photo icon, I just get an [img] showing up. I often...

Re: Road Toad contact points setting puzzle .....
Hi Clarence ..... just east of Edmonton .... Sherwood Park. I've got this 76 Road Toad that I've had for 31 years and only put on about 5 miles on it up and down the street, I've never registered or insured it. When I bought it in '93 it only had 1100 miles on the odometer, the fellow selling it got...

Re: Road Toad contact points setting puzzle .....
Ivan: My typing mistake ...... the manual said 0.008 to 0.010 inch on page 12. Anyways, quite a difference comparing page 3 to page 12 for the breaker point gap. Sounds like 0,012 is what a guy should go with. I'm not an experienced mechanic for bikes or old cars but when I first saw the 0.008 spec ...

Pop (Ivan) ...... Here is exactly what is on each of those pages ... Page 3 (spec page).... Contact breaker gap 0.012" to 0.14" (0.3mm to 0.4mm) .... Firing Point (ignition timing) - 2,75mm before top dead center Page 12 (timing instructions) .... The standard ignition timing is 24degrees ...

Road Toad contact points setting puzzle .....
First time back and posting after a few years I think. But I do end up reading stuff from Google searches. Question today relates to info in my '76 Road Toad owner's manual (beginning frame H13201 & engine M01001). It gives two, quite different specs for the contact point setting. Page 3 spec sh...

Checking in from up north .....
Man, it's been a while since I last made a post. I visit now and then, last time I was active here would have been 2-3 years ago when I was getting my 76 Road Toad out of mothballs and got a lot of good information on adjusting the clutch with those shims, (which worked well I might add) plus some s...

Re: Hodaka Thunderdog 250 .....
Oops, I hope nobody thought I was posting a For Sale ad with this Thunderdog ....... I just noticed the info at the top here on the forum regarding that restriction. I've got no connection to that bike, I just came across it searching Hodaka in our Kijiji classifieds up here. Looking closer, it appe...

Actually, that might be closer to $3750 USD ($5000 Cdn). So 1300 KM comes out to about 850 miles, looks pretty nice.

Hodaka Thunderdog 250 .....
Haven't been on the Hodaka forum for a while, but I do check out the action without posting. Here's an ad for a Hodaka Thunderdog ..... never heard of this model, a 250. It's for sale in Calgary, south of here where I live, this vintage bike shop sells a lot of stuff I think. Anybody here know much ...

Re: Spark Plug Reading 101
If a "motor" is one that operates using electricity, then I've been buying the wrong oil for the last 55 years for my cars and trucks. Every one I remember has had MOTOR OIL on the label and I've been putting it in my engines. Really, it's a moot argument.

Road Toad 100 Shop Manual ...
OK, I know there is no specific shop manual for the Road Toad 100's, at least that's what I've been told. I need to replace the kickstarter shaft oil seal this summer and I think having a shop manual would be a good idea. Which shop manual, of those available, would be the one I want to buy to be re...

Museum quality Toad Video .....
Came across this You Tube video from 2015, Kaplan Cycle somewhere in New England had it for sale, only 500 original miles. The narrator is slightly annoying but the bike is a beauty. Maybe somebody here remembers this bike and what it sold for. Anyways, worth a look for the forum members here, perha...

Re: " A Super Rat"
Up here in Alberta, we're supposed to be virtually rat free. I suspect there are some but generally, it's acutally advertised as a positive about living up here. With our cold winters, why the heck would rats choose to live here anyways, they're not stupid.

Not sure exactly how that happened but like most of us, I'm guessing the blade guard was taken off the saw? I know that I find them a pain in the butt to leave on. I know they're not bullet proof but I'm guessing they do work in most cases. Very nasty cut, I hope things get back to normal for you.

Re: Battery Charger Question
OK Jack, I'll see what happens with that and report back in later after I see how far it will drop over the next day or so. So let's say I can coax it to 6.4 after that (which you say is full voltage), would you expect it to drop while in storage over time a bit without hooking up the charger? And i...

Re: Battery Charger Question
Thanks for all the replies. I used this little charger, pretty low amperage, and it bought the voltage level up (see later on in this post). I think this battery I bought in July is on the fritz. It had sat for about 6-7 weeks until last week and even before that, the bike was driven very little. No...

Re: Engine number question
Yes, I suppose it could raise a red flag with the auction house, or a potential bidder. But I've never heard of engine numbers being part of any registration process with the motor vehicles department. Some cars of course had matching VIN/engine numbers from the factory, others did not. I wonder abo...

Battery Charger Question
My little 6V battery is out of my Road Toad for the winter, I keep it downstairs. Like other stored batteries for various things I have over the winter, I usually put a little charge into them every couple of months. I don't have a small amperage 6V charger for wet cell batteries but I have one here...

Winter storage and fuel ????
I'm sure this question has been posted in the past but here goes. My Road Toad is ready for winter storage, will be in my unheated garage. Temperature up here gets as cold as pretty much anywhere at times over the next six months. Right now, I have about a 1/2 tank of premium fuel in it right now, n...

Re: 100 miles per gallon
Well, when one considers what will happen during WWIII (should it happen), you'll be lucky to get through about one tank of fuel before nobody's riding anything. As a result, you might as well own and drive a Hummer or a Rolls Royce, at least that last ride will be a comfortable one.

Re: Special tools
In my experience, after market snap rings (like the plastic box full you might pick up at Harbor Freight, etc) are essentially junk and are nowhere near the quality of OEM snap rings (or any other fasteners, etc). And the thickness can also be an issue even if the diameter might seem correct. OEM fa...
