Re: Ace 90 rear wheel bearing spacer

I have made several wheel spacers over the years and as a cautionary note I would say that it's important for the spacer to contact the inner races of the bearings before the outer races bottom out in their recesses when the axle is tightened. If the outer races bottom out first and the axle is tigh...

Re: Hodaka 250 front hub/axle assembly

From that picture it appears that the shoulder of the axle contacts the inner race of the bearing and the seal rides on the larger diameter surface of the axle shoulder.

Re: Cases won’t close together!!!

You should see the size of the snap ring pliers necessary to work on some of my farm equipment. I don't have a pair that sturdy because they are several hundred dollars. It's cheaper to have my dealer do it. When a snap ring is 3 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick it takes some serious leverage!

Re: Starting the Wombat Combat!

I think old fashioned tire irons are faster than the Baja Tire Tool, although it is pretty slick. I have one of the Baja No Pinch Tire tools but never use it. After changing hundreds if not thousands of tires over the past 50+ years I can change a tire in about 10 minutes with tire irons and haven't...

Re: Air Leak Down test reveals porous inlet manifold

I like the idea of turning an aluminum piece to fit the intake manifold. It allows you to include the rubber manifold and all the connections between it and the engine in the test. The Motion Pro leakdown tester has several aluminum connectors to fit every size spigot carburetor mount.

If memory serves, unlike a Hodaka I think that both crank seals on the MX250 were outside of the bearings, so they would get lubrication from the premix.

Re: Running Rough!

I agree. Remember that we are attempting to do this with the crank in place I have never successfully pulled a crank seal with the engine assembled without ruining the seal. Quite often with a seal this small I have had to screw a sheet metal screw into the seal and pull it with that. I have never a...

Re: Running Rough!

All is not lost by pushing the seal flush with the case. It needs to be fixed but is relatively easy to remedy, however the next step is definitely a pressure test. If all the information in the earlier posts is correct, it still could be a carburetor issue. We know that the conditions changed drast...

AHRMA Corona message.jpg Thank you for making the difficult decision. Re: 03 clutch plate order.

Just a theory here. Both clutches require the same thickness of the clutch plate stack. The friction is provided by the number of friction plate surfaces. The more friction plates you have, the higher the coefficient of friction in the stack. I suspect that the higher horsepower model 97 needed the ...
