I am working on a bike I recently picked up. When I went to lock it in gear , the control shaft pulled free. And I found most of the pieces behind the primary gear  So a shaft rebuild is in order. My question is Where does the O ring go ? Does it fit in the end of the counter shaft ? Thanks K.C.

Yes, it fits just inside the countershaft from the left side (sprocket side). Use a pick to remove the old one and grease the new one before installation.
