Looks like a Fuji. Parts are not interchangeable with the Hodaka even though they look similar.

I don't think it's a Fuji. The oil fill on the Fuji's I have seen , are up on the top of the cover. Like a Ace 90. And the cases are different on Fuji's . But I have been wrong before.

Did you look at the cylinder to verify the cc's on it? And is ther a engine serial number?

Fuji also have a pattern on the sidecovers, and the left side cover looks pretty deep where as the Fuji is really close to the Hodie motor.

Re: interesting engine
it looks like there is some sort of sticker on the cutch cover on the top maybe its says something helpful on it. there was a company that was making knock off hodaka motors hodaka got it shut down fairly quick maybe one of those
Re: interesting engine
Emailed the owner. It's out for a rebuild. So he is unable to check at the moment. But he calls it the Hodaka clone. So most likely is a knockoff. He will check for numbers or Id marks when he gets it back. He has a friend with the same engine, they came in a Terra-Floater mini bikeit looks like there is some sort of sticker on the cutch cover on the top maybe its says something helpful on it. there was a company that was making knock off hodaka motors hodaka got it shut down fairly quick maybe one of those
Re: interesting engine
Could it be a Yumgici & Hodaka engine.Looks like the engine in my 63 90 ace. Which my father inlaw bought new in 63 from a Great Falls MT Hodaka dealer.

Rob you must be meaning 64 hodaka ? Clarence
Re: interesting engine
I think it is possibly a Phoenix engine. I have some Phoenix manuals and they have a 480 which is 4 speed 80cc engine and 500 which is 5 speed 100cc engine. The literature I have is Pabatco literature and says they were made for minibike use.
I think this is the engine I have freshening it up for him. I had one I did in a Terra Floater I had and now this one. It took mostly Hodaka parts (bearings, rings, gaskets). The shift parts were all really good so didn't have to be replaced but looked like standard Hodaka. Cylinder gaskets and rings were standard hodaka early Ace. Points and ignition were all standard Hodaka. Biggest difference was the 3 piece Left side cover/shift assembly. I still have it at my shop planning on sending it back to him in April.
