Re: Hodaka Q&A
That's it Dale. Six fins on a Hodaka alloy cylinder means it is 100cc (Model 98, 99, 01 and 02). Seven fins equates to 125cc (Model 95, 97 and 03). And for Clarence - Identifying exactly which 125cc cylinder you might have in hand gets more difficult if the cylinder has been "ported" . . ....

Re: Hodaka Q&A
How about this question? How do you identify the "size" (factory displacement) of a small bore Hodaka alloy cylinder from 20 paces? (i.e. no touching, no measuring, no looking down the bore)

Dang Clarence! That's purty chilly!!! The arctic air warmed up a bit before getting down here to the Athena area. We are looking at 5 right now, with -1 projected for 8AM on Saturday. Glad to hear you had wood stacked close!

Re: French Road Toad 02
Rene, that is a very interesting story about your "survivor" (an all original bike in very good condition!) Please keep in mind that while you have taken steps to assure the piston and cylinder will get along , , , after half a century, the crankshaft seals can not be trusted to maintain a...

Re: Gem Theater Projection System – End of year giving match
Clarence, I'm sure all monetary donations would be welcome regardless of the delivery method. Noting that your direct mailed donation will likely not get doubled by the "match" situation they've got going right now by virtue of not being channeled through the Valley Giving Guide and by pos...

Update: Dang, I forgot to make my donation to the Gem last night . . . but remembered to git 'er done tonight. The link works very well and is quite easy even on my old air cooled, drum brake, twin shock computer.

Re: Gem Theater Projection System – End of year giving match
I'll be going online make a donation tonight. For any interested Hodaka fans, I can vouch for "The Valley Giving Guide". I regularly go through them to provide funds to other local organizations.

Re: Race modifications?
It seems like you've addressed the "biggies". Extra gusseting at the steering head. Swing arm lengthened and gusseted. "Kicker tubes" added to the frame. Foot pegs relocated (and the original elephant anchor mount bar removed). Yep, looking good!

There is another answer which is not so "Hodaka-ish" ---- but I won't go there for a bit. Waiting to see if I described the "square" Clarence asked about.

A "square" engine has the same bore and stroke. As in 50mm bore and 50mm stroke.

Re: Adolph Schwarz
I hired on at PABATCO in 1971, so I missed the developmental years of the Hodaka. However, I crossed paths "in the halls" (and elsewhere) with Adolph several times . . . a truly interesting character! It is interesting to hear that there was a big bore AJS in his history. I knew about the ...

Re: 95 leaky crank shaft oil seal (left)
Sorry but that isn't a "goop solvable" problem. But the "fix" isn't terribly difficult (whew!). And it can all be done with engine in the frame (whew again). First remove the seal. I like to pierce the "face" of the seal with sharp, pointy center punch to provide an ent...

Re: Kokusan
I'm er, um, more than ten years into that project (can't you tell?) The "give aways" that it is a "current project are as follows: 1) The engine bin was visible from a distance, 2) the engine bin had ONLY one layer of stuff on top, and 3) it only took about an hour of concerted effort...

Re: Kokusan
Virtue is its own punishment?? So a little while back I said I'd dig out a "basket case" Model 03 engine to take a peek at the lighting system wiring at the coils to help out a Hodaka friend in need in this group. And here's what happened - after an hour of shifting things around to get to...

Re: Publishing Confusion
Yes, the "schematics" (Illustrated Parts List) is correct for the Model 96 Dirt Squirt - but the "Specifications" are not correct for this model.

Re: Publishing Confusion
I did notice while on the Hodaka-Parts dot com website, that the first page of the Dirt Squirt (96) specifications - very near the top - lists that the specs are indeed Ace 100 specs. So, yes, publication error.

Re: 03 Wombat Injection Pump
I'm wondering about whether or not the actuation shaft has an O-ring which might be replaceable. Though you may be more comfortable with a working spare on hand BEFORE disassembling the pump. My decades old memories of the innards of that pump just don't provide enough detail . . . but I DO remember...

I'll put it this way - I installed a 100 watt, 12v aircraft landing light on my direct wired, Combat Wombat enduro bike (no battery, or anything else for that matter). That headlight provided 3 main features, 1) very bright light with above idle revs, 2) slightly slower top speed due to pumping sooo...

Re: Publishing Confusion
The kick starter system got a pretty good test (tens of thousands of engines) with the ACE era primary gear ratios. No problem using 'em in a Dirt Squirt engine (which is essentially an ACE 100 engine with a few tweeks). No reason to lose any sleep about stress on the kick start system.

Re: Publishing Confusion
. . . and it would have been easy to change that. Just swap in the 19 tooth counter shaft gear from the Wombat (5th), and, voila, you have an "over-drive" 5th gear!
