Re: Day One - New Project
Greetings Max Great work in bringing back and transforming what was a pretty well used up and beaten down old Hodaka. It looks like a lot of fun to ride. Comparison of the first and most recent photo's shows what a truly skilled craftsman can do with a little bit of time, imagination, and an underst...

Re: Road Toad Needle bearings!!!???
Greetings Victor
You will find the location on schematic " B " which shows the needle bearings go between the kick idle gear and the clutch pinion gear which is on the right crank shaft. You will need all 47 of those unless you get a caged bearing from the 02.

99 crank in an 03 engine
Greetings Can anyone tell me what parts I will need to convert a 99 crank for use in an 03 engine? Is there any machining involved, and what model piston will work with this modification? Also- Would the full circle crank have any affect on the power delivery compared to the stock crank? Thanks Tom

I would highly recommend the C 512 tuning fork.viclioce wrote:Bill! Does it have to be an E320 or will an A440 work too? LOL!!! ; D Victor
This will help in avoiding "flats" caused by " sharp" objects.

03/99 transmission
Greetings Can anyone tell me if the transmission from a 99RT would work in a 03. From the schematics, it looks like the only differences are the 30T counter shaft 1st gear in the 03 compared to the 31T in the 99, and the main shaft inner race in the 03 transmission. I have a main shaft from both eng...

The tires are " IRC trials GP-1 ".
They are good all around performing tires--- in my opinion.

Re: Hole in piston
Greetings Glad to see that you solved your air leak/holed piston problem and have helped to keep another 250 SL alive. However, I would like to point out a potential problem that could possibly give you a bit of grief. According to the owners manual, the front brake cable should be routed through th...

Thanks for the reply. The optical illusion was confusing, and your explanation makes perfect sense to me now.
Good luck with the RT project.

In this case(no pun intended) the snap ring is in the left/magneto side where it does not belong. I was just wondering if Victor had tried to install the bearing with the snap ring under it which would prevent the bearing from fully seating.

The best you can get , is an owners manual/illustrated parts list. You can find them under the " Products" tab " and click on Manuals and Literature.
You will find quite a lot of useful information is included.

Re: Brake question
I read Ed's articles and learned some interesting facts about drum brakes that I didn't know, and got an answer my original question. 1 - The amount of pressure applied to the drum is increased by having the inside edge of the cam activate the leading shoe. The brake lever needs to be pointed forwar...

Just curious---- Does the front brake on a 99RT, with the cam rotating counter-clockwise, work any better or worse than a 98SR brake, with the cam rotating clockwise ?
Thanks

Re: 125 Flywheel puller doesn't work on 100 motors

I have a puller that works on both the Ace and RT flywheels.
The puller has a left handed thread, so try turning it to the left to screw it in.

Re: Ace or Super Rat? Tank on eBay
Greetings
Just curious.
How much thinner is the Rat tank than the Ace tank? With .75 gal less capacity, I'm guessing that the Rat tank would need to be be about 1" to 1 1/2" narrower.
Am I close in my guess/estimate?
Thanks

Re: 250SL pipe mod
Greetings Rich Congratulations on proving Harry's theory. Nice work. I'm glad that you didn't waste your time. Do you think that this mod would work as well on a 250 SL with the stock piston port? It appears that you have a reed intake. Did you need to alter the jetting to compensate for the less re...

Idle gear collar
Greetings
Is there an easy way to remove the idle gear collar from a 99 main shaft that wouldn't damage anything? The collar is only $10, but I would like to be able to reuse the one that I have on hand. The main shaft that I have is bad but the collar is in good shape.
Thanks

Re: 250 SL holed its piston. What to do?
Greetings In order to insure that my 250SL doesn't fail like Darrell's, I purchased new larger head gaskets ( Hodaka Dave ) and a new SC CDI per Rich's recommendation in an earlier post on this thread. With the stock single gasket, I got 150 LBS compression and 130 LBS with two of the new. My plan i...

Greetings kelly I see that the bottom frame rails are removed. Do you notice any flex in the frame or does the bolted on skid plate compensate for the removed pieces? It's a neat idea that should give you a couple of extra inches of ground clearance and take off a few pounds. It's a win win solution...

Re: 250 SL holed its piston. What to do?
Greetings Darrell Has it been colder where you've been riding? Colder air=denser air which will result in in a lean fuel to air mixture which can be compensated by re-jetting. I go to a larger main in the winter. Hopefully you can get by without splitting the cases. It's not the easiest Hodaka engin...

Thanks
