Re: base gasket leaks
I always apply a dab of automotive RTV / silicone sealer where the two case halves meet before installing the cylinder base gasket. Noticed several engines displaying that leak over the years....even with good cases and gaskets. Just do it automatically now. Working on many Hodaka engines and testin...

Re: Green 1975 Road Toad Ready!!!
Hey Vic, Looking at the wiring diagram, with the ignition switch OFF.... IG is switched to ground. IG is the black wire on the ignition switch. Switch grounds black wire through ignition switch case to ground. If the engine wont turn off with the key that is why I stated check your ground. Ignition ...

You have come a long way since you acquired your first Hodaka. Good job getting the younger generation to appreciate old school bikes.

Re: Anyone have experience with a water blast cabinet?
Hey Larry, assuming you are refering to vapor blasting. Using glass beads and water in a kind of slurry to clean and restore surface finish. I do not have any first hand experience with this process but looks very interesting. I have a 74 Kawasaki 750 H2 that I am considering sending the engine case...

Re: Head gasket issue???
The head gasket protruding into the opening around the head bolt is not normal. The head gasket bolt holes are not equal distance from each other. Head gasket could have been installed 180 degrees out of position to cause this. Again "could have".

175 Piston Modifications
I don't see very many of these and original Hodaka pistons are non existant as far as I know. Replacement Wiseco's do not have the intake side boost port. Also, Wiseco recommends drilling two holes in the piston with a bridged exhaust port. Holes are drilled in the exhaust skirt centered on the exha...

Re: Oil Leak at Counter Shaft
Had a little free time today and thought I would offer my solution to this concern. I bought this very large channellock style pliers many years ago. Big pliers are like big hammers....handy when used appropriately. I have used this method when assembling engines on the bench with no damage or diffi...

Re: PN 993713
The check valve is a spring and ball arrangement. The ball should unseat with roughly 4-6 psi. Compressed air from your air compressor should not be used to test / unseat the ball. To much air pressure can force the ball back inside the small spring coils or damage the spring. A Mityvac vacuum / pre...

Re: Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair
thrownchain, Removing the "bell" / drive shoulder is not a difficult operation. The sleeve is factory scored so it simply peels off. You just need to cut a slot in the driver shoulder prior to installing the sleeve. The sleeve shoulder diameter is larger than the inside diameter of the cra...

Re: Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair
Measured the left crankshaft seal and set depth adjustment rod to see where the seal would be located when installed in the engine case. I wanted to see if I had a little "room" to install the seal a bit deeper without blocking the bearing / seal lube passage. DSCN2296[1].JPG DSCN2297[1].J...

Re: Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair
1. I used Loctite 609 green retaining compound to install. 2. I have not tried driving the sleeve further down the length of the shaft after removing the shoulder. With the shoulder attached you are pulling the sleeve over the shaft. After removing the shoulder you are driving the sleeve and I think...

Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair
I have been present but not posted anything here in a while. Came across something that should prove useful to save otherwise non serviceable crankshafts. Note the pitted and damaged seal surface on this otherwise rebuildable Super Rat crankshaft. DSCN2288[1].JPG This is a Speedi-sleeve by SKF. Timk...

Bronc70's combat wombat was previously owned by Harlen Diem. Cylinder was bored to .080 over with a two ring Wiseco piston. A slot had been cut in the piston to match the victory port. Piston, rings and bore where in excellent condition. If I remember correctly, holes were drilled in the cylinder to...
