Re: Tank rust removal recommendations
I've had good success with Evaporust, but in two instances had to follow that up with a sealer. In both instances I used a product called Red-Kote. It's relatively easy to work with, and seems to work extremely well. Here's the tech sheet/instructions: http://damonq.com/TechSheets/Red-Kote.pdf

Re: Un-charted serial number -- 1970 Hodaka Ace 100 (?)
I, too, have an "uncharted" ACE 100. Frame: A-438xx ; Engine: P-437xx, dated June 1970. These were originally referred to as ACE-100-A's, I believe, but if memory serves, the Hodaka History book asserts there actually was no such model -- i.e., that these were in fact simply early 100-B's.

Re: Mdl 94 Wombat Rebuild
^What Dale says about the exhaust pipe is certainly true. I would first try cleaning the spark arrestor. A few weeks ago my ACE 100 started bogging terribly. I pulled the spark arrestor, reamed it out as best I could with a coat hanger, and reinstalled it. Improvement was pretty dramatic. Pulled the...

Re: Super Rat gets some love in new Cycle World issue
Here (link below) is the introduction to the main feature. Looks like they're profiling a vintage bike each Monday for the next several months. The Super Rat was first up.

Super Rat gets some love in new Cycle World issue
Spotted this little article (below) while perusing through the July 2015 issue of Cycle World in the local library. It's part of a larger feature titled "Motocross Memories." Super Rat was the 1st entry among the 10 bikes profiled. http://www.cycleworld.com/2015/06/15/motocross-memories-19...

The sprocket Paul has listed is specific to a #423 chain. I believe the ACE 100 uses a #420.

Re: The "Hangar Queen" lives!
Stations offering non-ethanol gas tend to congregate around marinas or lake access. Since boaters are regularly loading up on it, you can be fairly certain the gas isn’t sitting there in the tanks for very long. I always buy non-ethanol at those types of locations.

I hit 57 on my ACE 100 (also a 1970) within the past week. But that was really winding it out (and downhill, of course). On the roads it seems "happiest" around 40 or a little above.

Thanks, Bill. You're probably right, I think Red Line recommends 50:1 or even higher.bchappy wrote:I use 40:1. I bet Rich uses even less.

Rich and Bill,
At what ratio are you using Red Line? My local shop carries it and I'm thinking of giving it a try.

As Bruce indicated a while back, the company Roger used to source this headlight hoped to have a 6v 25/25w headlamp available soon, with the same dimensions. Looks like that headlight is indeed available now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-3-4-MOTORCYCLE-6V-HEADLIGHT-HALOGEN-H4-SUPER-WHITE-LIGHT-BULB-6-V...

Hey Scott,
Did you receive your permanent Vermont registration yet? I received my Vermont tag and temporary registration a couple of days ago. Am wondering how long it takes for the permanent registration to arrive.
Thanks,

I had the same issue with a tank a couple of years ago. Applied JB Weld around the circular perimeter and the repair is still holding fine.

03 Wombat project
A “picker” cousin of mine spotted and nabbed this new project for me. Fires right up and sounds great so long as you bypass the starter circuit and keep the choke engaged. Gonna to see how far my limited mechanical skills can take me before turning to a helpful “Hodaka” pal who lives a couple of hou...
