Thanks! I'm far from artistic, but I don't guess it's turned out too bad so far

Re: Hooker header restore for the AceBat

Not alot of progress tonight. Did however get a design laid out and a rough cut done. One of these days I'll have a plasma cutter, and projects like this will be much faster and easier lol

Re: Hooker header restore for the AceBat

Thank ya! Haven't decided what I want to do just yet. Idk if I want to slot it or drill it. Ran across this one the other day....not sure how I feel about it....

Re: Hooker header restore for the AceBat

Got a decent start on an aluminum heat shield this afternoon. Still needs some work, but it's getting there.

Going to get some thin gauge aluminum and give it a shot. Found a pic of one for a different bike that gives me somewhat of an idea.

viclioce wrote:Adam. Try some Loctite Naval Jelly for rust removal. And it works great on exhaust pipes. Brush it on, let it sit, rinse it off, repeat!

Picked some up today! Going to do a couple passes on it before it gets paint.

Re: Hooker header restore for the Ace-Bat

I'd say it's a very good possibility. I asked Dad earlier and he said he knew it was a Hooker chamber....just couldn't remember why it was brazed. The family tended to experiment a little bit back in their racing days. If I were to guess, that's where the extended and gusseted swingarm came from as ...

Hooker header restore for the AceBat

Spent the day extracting broken bolts from the frame and exhaust. Then started working on the Hooker header. Found a couple cracks that I welded up and resurfaced. Also found a spot close to the header nut that had already been repaired previously via what looks like brazing. Smoothed it out a bit.....

Re: New Member/Trouble identifying a 1970 Model

Cool Adam! I'm glad the pipe is salvageable. Its been a long time since I've seen one of those Hooker pipes but they definitely were a hot set-up item in the 70's. Probably few survivors. The aluminum makes an easy to work, effective and durable shield. That's going to be a really sweet bike. I'm r...

Re: Naval Jelly Before & After

Do you guys primer the exhaust before painting or just shoot it with paint after whatever rust removal process you use? And do you apply any type of clear?
Thanks.

I think it would be too. I plan to keep the Wombat engine in it. And it will definitely be hitting the woods!

Re: New Member/Trouble identifying a 1970 Model

Just a thought on your pipe. Hodaka Dave converted a Torque low pipe (without a heat shield) to an up pipe (needing a heat shield). He formed a blister of of heavy gauge steel lath and welded it on for an excellent, light, and effective heat shield. I've also seen ones formed out of sheet aluminum ...

Re: New Member/Trouble identifying a 1970 Model

I believe it is a Hooker expansion chamber. I'd say chances of finding a heat shield are rare, but I wish I could. I'm glad someone pointed out the swingarm. I never noticed it until yesterday afternoon. When my grandfather had the dealership my uncles raced MX. Only thing i can figure, is they guss...

Re: New Member/Trouble identifying a 1970 Model

The hardest thing to find out is what M Code or P Code for the Model year. That`s why I posted my Serial Numbers for you. As you can see our Hodakas have really close Frame Serial numbers and the engine is the Factory one. That bike belonged to Greg Zitterkopf. ATK Top Pro! Some of the fastest Dese...

New Member/Trouble identifying a 1970 Model

Hi guys. New member here from Kentucky. My family has a long history with Hodaka motorcycles. My grandfather had a dealership here back in the day partnered with a good friend of his. I have a bike that I'm having trouble identifying. Every chart I have looked at, the # on the frame doesn't seem to ...
