Adam. Try some Loctite Naval Jelly for rust removal. And it works great on exhaust pipes. Brush it on, let it sit, rinse it off, repeat!

Picked some up today! Going to do a couple passes on it before it gets paint.

Going to get some thin gauge aluminum and give it a shot. Found a pic of one for a different bike that gives me somewhat of an idea.
