Hooker header restore for the AceBat
Hooker header restore for the AceBat
Spent the day extracting broken bolts from the frame and exhaust. Then started working on the Hooker header. Found a couple cracks that I welded up and resurfaced. Also found a spot close to the header nut that had already been repaired previously via what looks like brazing. Smoothed it out a bit....still have some more tapering to do on that spot. Even found a part/serial # for the chamber....26166B. Did some test spots with some cheap paint. I think with some ceramic semi gloss it'll be good to go.

Re: Hooker header restore for the Ace-Bat
Nice Adam! Here's my guess. That Hooker pipe was not originally produced for the Wombat. There are spring mounting posts on it. M94/94a Wombats all had threaded exhaust spigots. Not slip-fit, spring- mounted. Someone slid on an exhaust nut and brazed a flange from a Wombat pipe on there and PRESTO - cool Hooker expansion chamber fitment for a Wombat exhaust spigot. I'm sure your father will get a charge out of it. Nice!
Re: Hooker header restore for the Ace-Bat
I'd say it's a very good possibility. I asked Dad earlier and he said he knew it was a Hooker chamber....just couldn't remember why it was brazed. The family tended to experiment a little bit back in their racing days. If I were to guess, that's where the extended and gusseted swingarm came from as well.
Re: Hooker header restore for the AceBat
The 94A was/is a slip fit exhaust.

Re: Hooker header restore for the AceBat
Ouch!! I apologize for the error. Both my Wombats are M94 with threaded exhaust spigot and I incorrectly assumed the 94a was the same. Bad mistake here - sorry about that.

Got a decent start on an aluminum heat shield this afternoon. Still needs some work, but it's getting there.

The shape looks good! Are you going to make a template for the cut outs? Victor

Re: Hooker header restore for the AceBat
Thank ya! Haven't decided what I want to do just yet. Idk if I want to slot it or drill it. Ran across this one the other day....not sure how I feel about it....

Gotta admit - the Hooker logo is pretty sweet.

I do too. Slick, louvered vibe. Fuddy duddy here, but I think stuff was cooler in that era.
Re: Hooker header restore for the AceBat
Not alot of progress tonight. Did however get a design laid out and a rough cut done. One of these days I'll have a plasma cutter, and projects like this will be much faster and easier lol

Nice!!! Quite the artistic touch, Adam.

Thanks! I'm far from artistic, but I don't guess it's turned out too bad so farmatt glascock wrote:Nice!!! Quite the artistic touch, Adam.

I like it too! Long as it does it’s job, stays cooler than the pipe & doesn’t burn you, your golden! Victor
