Well I thought the paint on this resto bike was just aged and faded, but it looks like it was painted orange at some point ant that faded also.
Stripped the paint off the side covers, actually wet sanded off all on one side cover fearing stripper on the plastic, and later light stripper on the other in 1/10 the time. So those are back to a shade of red again, lots of hours of wet sanding 320->400->500->600->800->1000->1200->1500 now on to buffing. Should be decent when done.
Now on the tank, looks like I will need to strip and paint that. May have it done by someone if there is a recommendation of good painter from the group. I want to put the decals on the paint and then clear coat over everything. I use to have a paint booth but no longer so tough to do nice job just in the garage.
But what about paint, bought Toad paint from Paul in the past but dont see that Red SL paint is available. This is where having a model 70 would be easier being white. Are there paint codes I could use? Want to match original color as best as possible, expecting plastic side covers will not really match after aging and dont want to paint those. And whats up with the ED side covers being metal and the SL being plastic, you would think the opposite, off road vs on road.
Any help on paint info would be appreciated.
