Hello,
I'm putting together an 03 Wombat project from bits and pieces. It has a rebuilt 03 engine with SC piston, 94 rod kit, VM28 Mikuni, and expansion chamber. The model 99 chassis has Ceriani forks and Curnutt shocks with an 03 swingarm.
It will be licensed for street and also used for trail and fast x-country work.
Having no experience with Hodakas, other than my wife's model 99, I don't know how the stock 15/52 gearing would work for my bike's intended purposes and with the modifications described.
I'd like to get the gearing close to right the first time as sprockets are a bit pricey to experiment with.
I'm a good intermediate rider and 170lbs.
Does anyone have experiences they could share regarding how they feel the stock gearing is on 03 Wombats?
Thank-you,
Peter
03 Wombat 125 sprocket combination?
Re: 03 Wombat 125 sprocket combination?
I road a stock 03 in the Bad Rock Trail ride at Hodaka Days last year with a 15/52 gear ratio and did fine. You will need that if you are going to ride on the road as your top end will suffer if you gear lower. If you are riding much in tight x-country and trail you may be more satisfied with a 14/52.

Thank-you, Bill, that's what I needed to know.
