Speedometer Lights On ?

Post by kingdve »

Hi all ... just finished rehooking up wires and installing a new key switch on my B+ ( prior owner had eliminated the key switch and it had a on /off toggle) , I went thru and checked and tested all the wireing with the tank and seat off just so no surprises . Now the speedometer light I notice is on while its running and from what I see on the wire diagram it looks like its supposed to be ? Is that right or am I missing something ? I cant imagine that little bulb liking power all by its lonesome ... clues ideas suggestions ? Thanks Dave

Dave, That looks correct to me. Too cold here today to go to the shop and compare, but just looking at the schematic, the speedometer bulb is going to get 6vdc from the battery at all times regardless of the emergency (AC/DC) switch setting. Since this bulb never gets the magneto AC output, the bulb should be fine.

I can second that: the speedo light is connected to the battery and lights whenever the key is on - the engine doesn't have to be running.

Thats what Im seeing ...even key in just the "run" position its on , would understand in the second lights position ... gotta wonder how much that little bulb can take all by itself ! Most bike / sled systems are a balanced as in one bulb goes it will take rest with it (at least the early non regulated systems) we shall see how it goes ! Thanks Dave
