Will SL 250 swingarm fit 94 Wombat?

Post by mpercy »

Hello I am in the process of taking a 94 Wombat and adding long travel suspension. I have a 250 SL roller and would like to swap the front end and rear end onto the Wombat frame. Has anyone done this before? Are there any modifications that will need to be done? Thanks, Mark in Puyallup WA

The 250 forks, wheel, brakes and axle will bolt right on with a conversion steering stem sold on this site. Cost you about a hundred bucks if you have the donor parts. Common upgrade.

The 250 swingarm will never fit. It is an inch wider at the front and uses a 20mm shaft versus the wombats 10mm bolt. Rear sprocket carrier completely different than the wombats. You will need shocks about an inch longer than stock to balance the longer forks. Thunderdog 250ed shocks work well, but the SL250 shocks are way to long. Longer Progressive shocks also available this site.

A talented welder can add an inch to your stock swingarm. Much longer than that leads to more problems than benefits.

If I'm not mistaken, Bob Canfield runs a 250 swing arm.

I saw Bobs bike at the Hodaka Days 5oth event. I caught the swing arm mod as soon as I walked up. I believe he grafted a section of 250 frame into a late model DS or Road Toad frame or grafted the front of an a RT swing arm onto a 250 swing arm. I can't remember which it was.. You can tell by the frame mounted foot pegs its not Ace or Wombat. He was very proud of the modification. A creative person who doubles as an expert welder can do most anything:)

I believe Bob's Wombat is an 03.
