Rebuilding my father's old Ace 90

My father bought a 1968 Hodaka Ace 90 from the showroom floor. He is the original owner. He is still alive and well, but is now at an age where he does not feel comfortable riding much.

He gave me his old bike, in pieces. How in pieces? Well, the engine is sitting on a board. The front forks are off, and the front wheel is loose. He gave me a crate of all the parts.
He also gave me his Service Manual for the bike, grease stains and all.
He also bought a parts bike, a early 70's Wombat. It is in about the same condition; in pieces.

So, here are my questions:

1) Anyone ever do a complete rebuild? What were some of the challenges you faced?

2) I want to restore it to showroom shine. How? I will get it painted and rechromed. Where can I get a paint match? What should have been chromed?

3) I need oil seals for the front forks. Where do i get them?

4) What to do with the Wombat? I have no papers for it. I live in Ontario Canada, and do not know how to get any. What parts are compatible?

You are at the right place to help with a complete restore. A lot of us have done complete rebuilds. most of the parts you will need are available here on the Strictly Hodaka site (just click on the tab at the top of the home page called "Shop by Schematic". As you would expect most of these parts are scarce so expect to pay the price. You can also search the site for things like "paint".

Which items will need chrome is up to you. The tank usually is the part that need it most. The fenders are stainless steel so they won't need chrome...just cleaned up and polished.

The Wombat is also up to you. Many parts will interchange. There is a Parts Compatibility PDF file available under the "How to - Technical Tips" under the "FAQ" tab.
