Lots of leaking petcocks..

I've got 3 Combat Wombats, so that means 6 (SIX!) leaking petcocks.
I've considered plumbing in some of those $4 plastic lawn mower shut offs on a few of the bikes.. how NOT cool would that look? :/

Is there a proven way to rebuild the original brass petcocks, or should I just spend the $240 and buy new ones?

Is the petcock not shutting off or is it leaking where it meets up to the tank? I would think that a little valve lapping compound used on the internals might help the surfaces mate up and stop leaks. I recently took mine apart and was able to use a little elbow grease and a medical rag, nice to have a wife that works in the OR, and they are doing great.

Sorry.

They leak when they are In the off position.
They don't shut off.
There is no leak where they screw into the tank(s).

It sounds like in your situation the valve lapping compound used in moderation should help the body and lever parts of the petcocks mate up.

They do come apart, have you peeked inside? I had all those symptoms on my 94 and they were cured with disassembly and clean-up. Seems like the older brass ones were curable with lapping.
