does anyone know if a 110/100 18 inch tire will fit on the rear of a 175? thank's Scott

Seems like no two tire makers, and no two styles within a brand, have the same actual width dimensions. Best bet is to measure the tire you have in mind by taking a measuring tape to the local bike shop. Hold the bead apart roughly the width of the rim and measure across. I know most folks say a 100/100 will fit where a 3.50 used to go, but not always so. My 100/100 Kenda is 4 1/5 inches across the tread, which makes it a 4.50 at least. Back in the 70's it would have been unthinkable to put a 4.50 on a 100cc bike even if it fit. Which it wouldn't without modifications. I had to lengthen the swing arm 3" to move the tread out into the fat part of the arm.

Measure across the swing arm at the widest part of your current tire between arm tube and chain guard or chain. That is your absolute outside dimension. The tire you choose should be smaller than that dimension by a half inch more or less. Just my guess, but my guess is a 100/100 will be plenty.

I have an 18" rear wheel on my Model 03. I believe they are the same size frame. I got Kenda enduro tires in the 3.50-18 size, model 56P, and they fit well. Don't know which style tire you're wanting but I suspect the 3.50 knobby would fit jus as well. Plent of room between the side of the tire & the swing arm!

A 3.50 tire is closest to a 90 metric. I have not seen 90/100 x 18 tires. Skinny knobbies have been out of use since the mid 70's.

Tire widths differ between brands and styles. I would think a 110/100 would be a lot of tire. Best way is still to measure actual tires to see if they fit your application.

It's been awhile back that we discussed tire sizes on the Forum. The Maxxis tire web site did have measurements on all their tire sizes which was quite helpful and they did offer many sizes that other manufactures did not offer.

For reference, a 100/100 tire is 3.9 inches wide at the carcass, and the aspect ratio is 100%, at the carcass. A 110/100 tire is 4.33" and 100%. Add to these dimension whatever tread is involved, and the tires are wider and taller. My Kenda 100/100 is 4.9" outside edge to outside edge of the widest side knobs. A 110/100 would be 5 inches or more wide in a dirt tire, and that's pretty wide for a vintage bike. Not that the bike couldn't handle such a tire. There would simply be very limited space for mounting.

So, how wide is your swing arm from chain to opposing arm?

The 175SL uses the same drive flange as the Road Toad and the 03 Wombat.
So, I would say you are going to have to use the same tires you would use on those models, or the chain will interfere.

the tape against the chain guard in front of the tire to the other side of the swing arm measures 5 inches and the same on my 03 wombat Scott

Then I doubt a 110/100 will fit if it is a knobby tire. A road tread might. 100/100 should work.

yea I was thinking a 110/100 was to wide maybe even a 100/100 is close. I will look for a 350/18 knobby and see if i can get one of those thank's Scott

I have a 100/100 Pirelli " Scorpion MX " on a 03 Wombat that clears the chain guard by 1/4 inch. It's a bit wider than I wanted, but it fits and works fine. It should be a good size for your 175 if you are looking for a knobbie.
