Huh?

Post by DesertRat54 »

Ran across this whilst burning time on the Internet. Is it just me, or does this bike look kinda familiar? Anyone know what it is? Kewpie doll to the winner.

Looks like a late 1970's TM motocrosser. A cottage industry motorcycle made in Italy. TM's are still being made, and include motorcross, endure, supermoto and kart engines.

Charlie, you're closest. It is Italian. Its a 1977 TGM 125CR. I thought it eerily reminiscent of this one-off '74 Super Combat:

Oops. Dirty_Rat, you could have hit the nail on the head if by "TM," you meant "TGM." Now I have to come up with two Kewpie dolls?

Bill, I'd settle for for 33 cents in small unmarked coins. Actually. I thought that it resembled Jody Weisels' Project Super Combat that is pictured lastly. Fun stuff!

I know where this one is for sale in the midwest by a very competent builder.

I was offered the bike, but at this point in time, I just cant add to the stable. Poor timing for me.

Just fired it up and have not done the complete break-in yet. Let me know if your interested and I will give you the owners contact info.

Some additional details on the bike: Built to race in the Grand Prix Class. It started life as a Super Combat and has a strengthened frame, custom swingarm, rebuilt motor by George Cone with porting and a 34mm carb with about 10 min runtime. The head is a 79 Honda CR125 machined to SC specs., new works performance shocks and 250 front end, new rims and spokes, CR250 seat, both bikes have powder coated frames and new tires.

This makes me wonder just how radical a Hodaka can get. Someone either has a lot of time on their hands or a lot of miscellaneous bike parts to chose from to come up with a CR250 seat fit to a Hodaka.

Is that a Road Toad rear hub?

And just for grins, how much??

Greetings

I found some photos of the TGM. The dirty one is a 77 and the clean one is a 78.
Ya gotta love those Italian "Cottage bikes". I'd bet a nickel that Cagiva used the same suppliers.

Enjoy

Built by a retired gentleman, who I believe was a machinist. He built several custom Hodaka's over the years for his son to race.

I have owned and raced a few of the bikes, my favorite was an all black model 98 Super Rat. Never had a mechanical failure with one of his bikes.

I believe it is a Road Toad rear hub, new spokes and new rim.

$1800 would buy it, which is a very favorable price considering the George Cone engine, Works shocks, new spokes and rims. He is done building bikes as he has some serious health issues now and must clear out the garage.

Omaha, NE would probably be the nearest city anyone would recognize.
