Piston size for a 250 road toad

Post by Abooka13 »

Hi folks,
I'm new to this site and new to hodakas. I have a '77 250 road toad and I need to re-bore the cylinder and need a new piston. I need to confirm the original bore size to make sure it has not previously been re-bored.

In short... What is the original piston/bore size for a '77 250 road toad?

Thanks

Greetings

Click on the "Shop by schematics" on the home page and select your model, then click on "View model specifications". You will be able to find any info that you need. Note-Click again on the small lettering to enlarge.

Hope that helps

Is there a number stamped on the top of the old piston, this could indicate the size. Post a picture of your project and we can help with ID just what you have and get you going in the right direction.

Post your frame and engine number, and someone here can confirm the bike for what it is, and explain how that is done. A photo would also be most instructive. Welcome.

Just to make sure that the advice you have received is clear. ALL Road Toads are 100cc models -- so there needs to be a bit of work done to identify what you really have. In addition, there are two models of the Road Toad. While the engine cylinder and piston are the same on both models of the Road Toad . . . sooner or later you are going to need to know which model you have.

The serial number on the plate on the steering head and the serial number on the center case near the clutch lever on the engine will both give you needed information. Then take a look at the identification information available on the Strictly Hodaka web site.

Standard bore for the 1977 SL 250 is 70mm. Piston should be a couple thousandths less. Oversize in steps of ten thousandths. All specs are on the Strictly Hodaka website under shop by schematic. Link is just below the photo of the bike.

Thanks everyone. I guess I just took what the previous owner said as the truth, new to Hodaka's so knew no better. I measured the piston and got 70.15mm. I will double check my serial numbers soon but it would seem I have an SL 250 with its original piston and bore size. I just moved so the bike has been put on hold for a little while. I will be back on the project soon to get a definitive answer on what bike I have and will go from there.

Thanks again
