shifter cover compatibility

Post by mpercy »

Hello,
I have an Ace 100 motor that I would like to swap out the shifter cover so it will shift opposite of the stock (one up and the rest down). I have heard that the newer HODAKA cover would fit right on with no problem. What about a shifter cover from a Fuji 97cc motor? Thanks for your help.

Let me take the liberty to ask this question in a different way because I am interested in the answer too...

If I understand correctly, shifter covers that say, "Ace 90" or "Ace 100" are 1up/4down, (or 1up3down, for the Ace 90). But shifter covers that say "Hodaka" are 1down/4up, (or what I would call the standard shift pattern).

If this is true, is it possible to use a shift cover from a later 100cc, or even a 125cc, machine to get the standard shift pattern on an earlier Ace100 motor?

If not true, on which specific model(s), did it change? I thought I knew the answer, but I think I confused myself looking for a shifter cover for my (93) Super Rat.

Thanks!

The "Hodaka" will work on all 90* and 100 and 125s.
*The early Ace 90s were 4 speeds, so it won't work on those.
I think they will even work on the Wombat 03, but not 100% sure. Someone here will have the real definitive answer.

The 03 shift cover is totally different. Oil injected 100s and 125s used a 2 piece cover.

While the oil injected cover is different, a 94 (Hodaka) shift cover will bolt onto a 99/01/02/03 motor.

My 03 Cross Country motor has the rear mounting lug behind the C/S sprocket broken off. I use a 94 cover on it.
Works well and confuses people at the same time. :o  8-)
