Exhaust Springs

Post by Case-WA »

I bought a new set of exhaust Springs for my CW and having a hell of a time figuring out how to get them attached due to them being so tight. I can't stretch them enough to get them to their second mounting point. Anyone have any tricks?

Specifically I am referring to the ones that attach to the cylinder fins at front.

Photo shows the exhaust spring tool I made. I like this type more than the T-handle kind. I can grab the tool with both hands and gain some "steerage" and even "twistage" control over the spring end. ALSO, making this tool out of a worn out Phillips screw driver (you KNOW you have a couple, right?) turns it back into a useful tool. (Grind the end to a smooth taper then fire up the propane torch to heat the end for bending.) Exhaust springs will be wayeee easier to install/remove with this tool. CAUTION: This is the 2nd or 3rd one I've made - they seem to like to hang out wherever 10mm sockets and wrenches go. It's still good though, because that pesky worn out Phillips will never bugger-up a screw again! Cosmic Question: Why don't worn out Phillips screw drivers want to hang out in never-never land with the 10mm tools?
