Running 03

Post by viclioce »

Well today she started! Still dealing with a bubble in the oil line on the intake side between the tank & pump. I fired her up with a 32:1 premix in the tank!

The pump pushed all the oil in the lines going from pump to carb and left crank bearing. But the air bubble seems to have stopped the flow from the tank to the pump.

I will use the syringe to try and clear the air bubble on the intake side & refill the outgoing tubes again as well. But I think it may have fouled the plug with double the oil.

If I get all 3 lines to flow freely, I can drain the premix and go to straight plain 90 octane in the tank!

Wish we could add a video by simple attachment. :ugeek: Victor

It's been a while since I've worked with an oil injection system - but as I recall . . . can't you remove the "input" line from the fitting at the pump and "gravity drain" a bubble from it?

Of course then you MIGHT have a small (hidden) bubble in the inlet fitting after you re-install the input line on the fitting.

. . . but, since you have pre-mix in the tank - you can set up a fast idle and watch for the (possible) bubble to travel thru an output line. To eliminate "over oiling" while de-bubbling - you can remove the output line(s) from the banjo-bolt fittings (which have internal spring-loaded ball valves) -- AND you can then manually twist the pump "throttle" wheel/cam for maximum oil delivery (to speed things up).

Oil delivery is excruciatingly slow when you are watching a bubble travel thru the lines (as I recall). ;)

PS: Since it is an 03 - it would probably be best to leave the main bearing oil line operational even for short term shop high idle situations.

That’s what I’ve been doing. I also took a section of coat hangar wire and made a long T handle which I can poke down into the lines & break up the air bubbles. I’m using a 3mm syringe to push oil into the lines & fill them. Works well as long as you leave room for sure to escape! :ugeek: Victor

Are you using injector oil? Are the oil lines hooked up correctly? Are you pumping air to the oil tank or oil to the engine? -------------- Clarence is it running yey/T?

Yes it’s running. I primed the oil lines with a syringe. Still getting a few air bubbles but not sure if it’s because the oil tank doesn’t have a lot in it or not. The oil does appear to be pumping to the engine. Both outgoing lines are showing oil movement. :ugeek: Victor

Fill it with injector oil and we try to keep them full. Clarence *** oil is cheaper than the engine.
