Filing oversized rings?

Post by hodakaguy »

I can't find std bore rings for a Wombat 94 engine. Is it possible to file down .010 oversize rings to achieve a standard 000 bore size?

Thanks

I would rather do that then you can get the ring gap exactly where you want it. ------------Clarence

Thankyou I measured the bore and it is 2.206-2.207. The STD bore is 2.203 and 1st over is .010 or 2.213. I guess .006 filed away is doable.

We used to do this all the time of race engines to get the best ring seal. Get the next size larger and file to perfect end gap size. Just make sure if there is an indent on the back side of the ring, you also make sure that it has the original clearance for the ring locater pin in the piston (you don't want the ring to stick out at the pin).
