Hello from downunder

Post by edo1400 »

Hi
I am new to the forum having found my 1970 original Super Rat after many years of searching. The bike is in remarkable condition for it's age and is complete, however the front forks were not operating correctly. I have stripped them today and they are the Ceriani type very similar to my H1 Mach 111 except 30mm. My question is the lower fork tube has the damper in it but it appears that it is non removable? Whereas on the Mach 111 this just slides out, I also noted that on the model 93 Super Rat schematic no damper is shown in the lower fork tube? So has someone put dampers in that don't belong on this fork assembly???
Cheers

Edo,
Welcome to the forum! What a great story to find your old bike. Many want that to happen but we hardly ever hear that it works out

I am not sure about your particular forks, but I'm guessing that you have the model that does have the none removable dampners. I would recomment these two videos on Youtube created by Hodaka Club member Kelly. I hope these help.

Hi Dale
Thanks for your reply and the link to the excellent video which explains everything. My forks have the dampner that is welded in and non removable, so now I know they are period correct for the bike.

I had a Super Rat when I was a kid back in the 70s and loved it. I have been looking for one for about 20 years as they are hard to find in Australia. One of the guys I ride with in our club mentioned he knew a collector who had passed away but thought his son still had the collection. He put me in touch touch and I convinced him to part with the Rat!

Cheers Edo
