powder coating and swingarm bushings

Post by Jhjelm130 »

My dad wants our road race frame powder coated. He gave it to me with the swingarm bushings still in it. Now he is in ICU for a while with the COVID crud so I can't ask if that is what he intended (I have a feeling he was going to leave them in for the coating). Anyone ever done this or is it definitely a bad idea?
Thanks.

You might want to check with the powder coater, but it is my understanding that the rubber bushing materal might melt when the frame is put in the oven to set the coating. If they are removed, make sure the mounting area of the frame is not coated, otherwise it will be very hard to mount new bushings.
