Hoping no fire sale (literally) posts are needed too.
Re: Hoping all our west coast members are safe from the fires
I live in north central Washington. I have lived in Washington my entire life(66years) and I have never seen anything even close to this. Fires everywhere. One fire the other day started about 10 miles away from us and in less than 24 hour it traveled over 60 miles. Luckily for us it went in the direction away from us. Not so lucky for those in its path. Whole towns wiped out. Even the west (Wet) side of the state is On fire.
No rain in sight. But at least for now the winds have eased some.
We are ready to bug out on a moment’s notice if needed. Where we go will depend on where the fires are at that time.
Pray for all those affected
Pray for the fire fighters
Pray for rain

We’re in Eugene, heavy smoke & ash for 3 days now. Fires are within 15 miles os town, entire small communities east of us are - literally- gone. We’re fine.
Gregg & Jan Floren evacuated Monday night from their home outside of Newberg, OR, hope to return Friday (their home is ok so far, Fire seems restrained.
I’ve lived here for 45 years, worst fires I’ve seen. Fires even on the coast.
Think good thoughts for all.

Any ideas as to how these fires started?

Pretty much the standard mix - human's doing fire works, human's tossing out a still lit cigarette, camp fires not put out, even one from a pyrotechnic gender reveal party, lightning . . . and a few from your every day, garden variety arsonists (happens every year).

. . . oh yeah, I forgot the ones from downed power lines. We had a severe wind storm through the northwest a bit over a week ago - and the winds were blowing directly in the opposite direction to "normal" wind storms. That alone "found" trees and power lines which hadn't been fully and regularly tested/stressed by Mother Nature for high wind forces in that particular direction . . . and it caused some problems.

touched base with Lee Fabry last night, he’s still in his home, but can see the flames from his front yard . Safe so far but ready to leave if told to go.

I talked with Kee as well. He said a few days ago the flames were just a half mile from his house! The evacuation plans have his block second in the plan to evacuate if needed.
They were predicted to get 7 days of Santa Ana winds, but thankfully that did not happen.
He said he moved 15 bikes and the hot rod to a safe location already. All his family lives in the immediate area and if they have to evacuate, they will all be looking for hotels to stay at because they all live within the same immediate area! Victor
