93 super rat carb
93 super rat carb
Help please, Just got a Super Rat and took carb apart. From the outside it looks correct. On the inside it has a second main jet, the jet in bowl is a 140, jet in carb is a 95. Is this correct? Is it a Super rat carb?

Re: 93 super rat carb
No that’s not right, that should be just a tube like piece with a O-Ring that the needle slides down into. I guess a Jet may be able to fit. Check out my SR carb video and you can see the part.

Re: 93 super rat carb
You can see the Jetting specs in the HPI Library. The Super Rat carb has a 1/4 inch inlet nipple and 24 millimeter Venturi. The Yamaha AT1 and CT1 used the identical carb BUT the fuel inlet is 5/16 inch. Some AT1 CTI carbs were 26mm. You can install the main jet as shown in your photo. I do. Once you have it jetted, you can screw the Main Jet in as shown in the Photo. I prefer it that way because the Factory position of the main Jet is at the lowest point and ANY grit plugs up the Main Jet really easy. I have a 180 Main jet in my Super Rat ( Stock Engine). It`s been that way for the past 45 plus years . They came Jetted way too rich on the Main Jet. Never seized a Piston. Ever! Joe Ormonde.
Re: 93 super rat carb
General carb question. Will a warped carb flange cause a bike to run lean or will the spacer form fit to it when snugged up? Just wondering? Victor

Re: 93 super rat carb
Looks like maybe you might have a Rat carb top half with a Wombat bowl? Just a guess. But I would run the bowl jet holder empty & go with the main jet mounted in the top half of the carb as shown in your picture. Just my 2 cents. Victor

Re: 93 super rat carb
Victor, that’s the right bowl. I’ve never tried it but it looks like maybe a main Jet thread is the same as the inlet. So looks like someone screwed a jet into it.
Re: 93 super rat carb
Thanks everyone for the help. I watched all the socalhodaka super rat videos. I didn't realize that the oring part screwed out. A quick look at Hodaka parts inc and there it is! can be bought! I noticed same oring for model 93 and 95, just happen to have a model 95 flanged carb for parts! Think I'll do like Joe said, jet from bowl jet and then put in other position, gets rid of that leaking oring that causes problems. Thanks All.

Re: 93 super rat carb
That`s one reason I install the Main Jet under the Needle Jet. Once your bike is jetted, it`s jetted. What you can do is screw what they call the Needle Jet Bolt into the Banjo Bolt or as I call it the main jet holder so it doesn`t get lost. Anyhow, that`s how I do it. Joe.
Re: 93 super rat carb
Thanks for the clarification Kelly. My Model 03 has a Model 95 top end on a Model 94 tranny and I wasn’t sure if it had a Model 93 or Model 94 carb. You confirmed for me that I do indeed have a Super Rat 93 carb a VM24! Thanks! Victor

Re: 93 super rat carb
Victor, look at this picture. Model 93 24mm carb on left, model 95 28mm carb on right. The 95 carb is alot bigger and the jet bowl bolt in differant location.
Re: 93 super rat carb
Bud. I wasn’t referring to the Combat Wombat carb. I have an 03 Wombat with a 94 bottom end, a 95 top end and what I believe is a 93 carb. It was sent to me by a former forum member who had a Model 93 with the 125cc upgrade cylinder/head.
My 95 Combat Wombat does have its original 28mm flange mount VM28 carb on it! Victor

Re: 93 super rat carb
So ... I got the Super Rat to start, ran really rich, main jet screwed in where oring usually is. I think gas is still getting by jet. Is this carb worth buying all the parts to rebuild? Would I be better off to purchase a new carb and convert to spigot mount?
Re: 93 super rat carb
It’s worth the rebuild. They are getting harder & harder to find, flange mounts that is. So if the body is still good, it’s worth the rebuild kit! Victor

Re: 93 super rat carb
budpat - I believe you are on the right track. Having the main jet installed in the bottom end of the needle jet is not right for that carb. It is quite likely that restoring the proper pieces with the O-ring will also restore proper operation.

Re: 93 super rat carb
I thought that too until I relocated the Main Jet under the Needle Jet. My carb in my 93A Has been that way for 40+ years with no trouble. My Jetting specs are as follows: Pilot #30. Throttle Valve(Slide) #2.0 Needle Jet #N8. Jet Needle # 4D3 ( In The Center Position). Main Jet #180. If any one wants to find out what a Super Rat is supposed to run like COME ON OVER TO MY PLACE AND RIDE MINE !!! A weak Ignition is USUALLY the culprit . Once again, that Factory Installed cap! Check it first. Joe Ormonde.

Re: 93 super rat carb
Excellent discussion here.
I never, ever, thought about two possible places to install a main jet on a VM24.
Took me several looks at the original post to understand the question.
Far as the 180 main, I'm just plain chicken.
I've locked mine up 'real good' with a 210. Smoked the piston & ring. With a 35 pilot.
Now I've got a 40 pilot & 230 main.
She blubbers a bit, but once it's "on the pipe" it's faster than I can handle.
That said, looking for fuel problems often turn out to be lack of spark problems.
And if it's not those two it's air leaks. I hate those.

Re: 93 super rat carb
Good points Al. I’m hoping to get the Model 03 motor I bought a while back on the work bench next week. Need to find out if it’s still std size or if it has an oversize piston in it. Hoping it’s still std and that I can just put in a new std piston & rings if it’s not too worn. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Then I can use that Model 94 tranny with the CW cylinder & head in a “to be acquired” Wombat 94 roller. Here’s hoping anyway... Victor

Re: 93 super rat carb
Not sure if I understand you right Victor, but a 94 transmission won't work in an 03 engine (one primary kick the other not). If you are just referring to putting the 03 cylinder on the 94 bottom end, (with a 97 piston), then that will work.
Re: 93 super rat carb
Oops, just re-read your post. You are going to put a Combat top end on a 94 bottom end, that will work fine.
Re: 93 super rat carb
I’m not going to put. I got it that way!
A 95 cylinder & head on a 94 serial number tranny. It currently has a .020 94 piston in it. I may change it to a Model 95 piston to take advantage of the piston port configuration.
Danny once told me it would pick up about a 15% increase in HP! But, I’m going to try to rebuild the Model 03 motor I bought to put in my Model 03 Cassis and then move this motor to a 94/94A roller!
Because, you know, I need another bike in the garage! Victor
