If you are wanting a dual sport tire, IRC makes a great 3.50-17 tire (GP-1) and they are readily available.
Knobby tire? I don't believe that they exist.

Ah shoot. But it is available in a 3.0 x 17 so there shouldn’t be any clearance issues with it! Victor

Thought I"d post an update. I found a Maxxis rear tire in 100/90-17, installed width is 4.25". I think it was about sixty bucks, free shipping. It's a bit chunky but I don't ride this thing on the road hardly at all anyway.
Managed to spoon it on without ruining the tube. Whew!
