The 2 the Max Project
Re: The 2 the Max Project
Hey Bill, Well darn. I wanted to meet everyone. It is a long haul even from Kansas. Hey, fly out and see us. One day away!

Yikes! I'm on page 2. I'd better make some frivolous report to stay in touch. The tank has been painted a cool flat silver to go with all the other bare metal and blasted look. I'm likin' this red/silver combo. Cool methinks.

I like the flat silver too! I think it looks faster! LOL! Like the speed has blown the shine right off!!! Victor

Re: The 2 the Max Project
My sweet wife Eweleen, who is a graphic designer, is really handy to have around on the 2 the Max project. Kinda tough to get seat measurements while folded up on this thing. Photography to the rescue. She then could define how the drag inducing low pressure area forms behind the rider at speed. At least a start and visualization of the problem at hand. Onward!

hey maxie found this in some stuff if you would like it , its 8 pages in pretty good shape, pm me your address and its yours..albert
Re: The 2 the Max Project
Here's the Mikuni 32mm carb finally adapted to my old reed manifold. I had to build a new plate with wider spacing on the mounting studs for the spigot adapter. The assembly looks somewhat impressive on the little engine, methinks. Better to look good (and go fast) than to be practical, I always say. One step at a time---

This bike already holds the record for most posts. It has been an interesting ride for all of us..

Wow! I hadn't been paying attention! Thanks for everyone's comments I should say! I see Victor wins for views at least lately. Victor is always fun and I do check on him often, lol.MTrat wrote:This bike already holds the record for most posts. It has been an interesting ride for all of us..

Re: The 2 the Max Project
Yikes! I'm approaching page two. Time for some kind of post on the project. Check out the cool manifold conversion for my Amal 32mm reed set up to a Mikuni 32mm. I did have to manufacture a new plate with a wider bolt stance. Ready for spigot mounts or even a bolt-on Amal. All is well.

Re: The 2 the Max Project
I'm about to go on page three which means little is happening on the 2 the Max project. Too many Spring happenings. I'm getting caught up and did get a stand system figured out which was sorely needed. Much better than hanging from the ceiling. It won't set on crate with the low pipe on. Much better! I also clear coated the tank and got it all rubber mounted. I need to get Eweleen to design some cool but simple graphics. Reporting-----

Well, I’m going to finish up the Green Toad now, and I think the kick shaft eating retainer broke in the Ace, so I’ll be busy with those items as well!
But, seeing what your project is capable of doing speed wise is going to be fun to watch & hear about in the near future! Victor

Re: The 2 the Max Project
I've been stumbling over the 2 the Max project in the workshop all Summer as I worked on another responsible project, repairing and painting the house which is finally secure and nearly finished. With Winter approaching I've been gathering up a few parts for the project. Here's the really cool original "R" close-ratio 5-speed for the project that you should see before engine button-up. More to come.....Maxie

Re: The 2 the Max Project
I prefer the Counter Shaft with the nut, BUT that transmission is trick! First gear is a tad higher than the Model 92-93 trans, second is the same and when you shift third forth fifth be prepared to think that the clutch is slipping! That`s how close they are. I wish they would have installed the Model 91 Transmission in the Model 93 Super Rats. That alone would have more than impressed every test rider back in the day. Your project looks GREAT!!! Joe.
Re: The 2 the Max Project
Finally some action on the 2 the Max project. Grinders and noise. My wife is frowning but understands. Maxie
Re: The 2 the Max Project
So Max. How much are you grinding off the intake? And how do you know when enough is not too much? Victor

Re: The 2 the Max Project
Hey Victor. Nothing scientific here. I marked where to match the bigger manifold with the cylinder opening and cut straight in and tried to blend all of this together. The width as it enters the cylinder has not been enlarged. The passage to the opening has been enlarged quite a bit to match the bigger manifold. Finger port height is the same as the transfer ports. Finger port width depends on how big of holes the piston will allow without failure. More to come when I cut the piston. Hope this helps! Maxie
Re: The 2 the Max Project
I was just curious. I had a Kawasaki F6 125 when I was younger. It had a rotary valve carb system. We used to cut the notch on the rotors valve bigger & bigger to try and get more fuel flow. But if you cut too much, the rotary valve became useless and you had to put a new one on! Victor

Re: The 2 the Max Project
Hey it wont be complete without one of these
Re: The 2 the Max Project
Hey Maxie, let’s get you back to the 1st page. I’m very interested in replacing my Ace 100 shocks, and the eBay RFY shocks sure do look good to my wallet compared to the $300-1,000 Fox, Ohlins, etc. I take it that you haven’t had any road time with the shocks, but I’m curious about your initial impression of them, what size you went with (350 or 360mm?), how the eyelets matched up, how they perform in the garage. Reviews have mentioned inconsistencies in the oil and nitrogen amounts from the factory...I’ve been researching, and a lot of folks recommend a rebuild involving changing the oil, refilling the nitrogen, and maybe replacing a gasket or two, but most posts I see are from several years ago and I’d like to know if quality has improved as we’re approaching 2019.
