Really good question. The Amals worked at this angle and I have had trouble with Mikunis at extreme angles. We''ll see. I might have to use a angled manifold which I have but am using on another project. I guess this is how we find things out. Rich/racerclam could probably clue us in on this.

My take would be to determine where the _fuel level_ is in relation to main jet atomiser (emulsifier) tube on the stock "level" setting and make sure it is at the same point with the "tilted" carb. Any adjustment would be made via the float adjustment. Since the emulsion tube is in the geometric center of the float bowl, as is the float, tilting the carb shouldn't make a big difference.

A few weeks ago I finished painting the pipe a ultra-flat black VHT and hung on the wall for later assembly. Each day I walked by the pipe, the more it looked like a stove. Seriously. Dull and utilitarian, the looking good theme not working. Maybe it needed to be a traditional semi-gloss but everyone has that. Titanium/Unobtainum is the look we need. No Titainium at Ace Hardware but an online search revealed a VHT Cast Iron which had "the look" we need. Check it out.

As I wait for a warmer day to Paint the 2 the Max Project, The Day One project has been temporarily brought in to consider modifying the muffler into something more abbreviated and trials-like. I still haven't figured that out but some ideas are starting to emerge.

Cast iron. That works. Going after the Industrial Revolution-SteamPunk look?
Or the Iron Butt image.

I see now that I should have never mentioned cast iron but instead lied that this was actually Titanium paint. Live and learn.

Hey, still better than a stove. 8-)

Cast iron/titanium is going to look great.
Bham's Vulcan has been mooning Homewood for near 100 years. Nuttin' odd there.

Ah, 66 degrees this afternoon but a howling wind. I got indoors in the implement building and set up. A bit dark so I set up a 1000w photo light which not only warmed the metal but I could see really well. Rust-oleum professional Safety Red spray can. Wow! Super red and really covers with high gloss. Try some and see if you agree. Same paint I used on the Day One Project.

Max. A simple question. Is there any real benefit for removing the swingarm for painting? Or is it just something you prefer to do? :ugeek: Victor

I dunno Victor. I hadn't even thought about it. You can get in the nooks and crannies better and it's quite a bit lighter and easier to handle in two pieces with all that spinning around. It all still comes out red. LOL.

Max. Do you use the swing arm mount holes for the rotisserie, or an engine mount set of holes? Maybe that’s why? Your rotisserie? :ugeek: Victor

Hey Victor, like this. Funny story here. Without the stick the chassis will contact the ground. Higher horses later cured this. On the Day One project I had most of it painted but then I couldn't reach the stick nor could I let go of the frame. Luckily I had my cell phone and called my wife to come and save me. Be prepared!

Maxie

Ps--Clarence replaced the stick with a stand which works out better yet. (I hate to admit)

I always hate being on page two. The 2 the Max project is only slightly delayed as Max has somehow volunteered to put his historic Model Aircraft display in our Public Library for a month. This has turned into a many hour project for two. Civic duty my wife says. She did help with graphics and press coverage. Humor me and back soon...

Love the SR-71 Maxie. Fired on countless times. Never hit. Coast to coast in 45 minutes. The pinnacle of cold war US badassery. Sorry to see it retired.

Thanks Matt! Yes! The SR-71 still holds the four major speed and altitude records set in 1976.

Anyway, this is what I did in Kansas bad Winters until I re-discovered Hodakas a few years ago.

I was amazed by the proportions of the SR-71 when I got to see one up close. From the front, the two engines are approx. one "full arm span" in diameter (about 6 ft). Ditto for the main fuselage. So from the front you have three "full arm span" sized tubes situated on a razor blade wing. Not much frontal area at all. But looked at from the side, the thing is a semi-giant. Amazing aircraft.
