Did not find the discussion about the "defective" type of model 94 carb in the old archives. What does one look for to see if his is the "defective one" or not.

When you look into the inlet throat of the carb, you should see the brass shroud of the needle jet protruding up into the throat opening. This is the desired "B" carb. The needle jet of "A" carb does not protrude up into the throat of the carb.

I have enough paper weights on my desk already. I know, I will replace Rick Motts Womace carb with it, just before he leaves for Hodaka Days. That way, everyone will be safe on the Bad Rock ride. Safety first.

I have just ordered a brand spanking new 26 mm for the 03 powered WomAce. If you want the old one I bought on Ebay, you are welcome to it. It works, just seems to be a bit cold blooded. I think it is the enriching valve. Has worked fine since 2009.

I don't even have a 03. Sterling was given a complete 03 the other day, and I believe he has the "evil" one. I wonder what transmission he has?
I was not implying that you were a dangerous rider, I was just concerned about the helpless, defenseless rocks along the trail.

Just to be sure, the "evil" model "A" carb came on only the earliest production Model 94 Wombats. There was a production change to the model "B" carb pretty quickly.

The 03 engines all came with 26mm carbs . . . so the only way a model 03 engine would have a dreaded "B" carb is by way of a carb change sometime in the ensuing 30-40 years.

Someone made a reed valve adapter that empoyes the 03 reed valve with the 94 carb. Short or non existant needle jet and a large throttle slide idle screw. Anyway, Sterling got the ol' girl fired up, not cold blooded, idles nice.
On the evil carb, was the mid range the problem area? Perhaps Sterling could send a photo?

I don't remember the symptoms well . . . but it seems like transitions from pilot to slide to needle just didn't work well. A trials application would likely be the toughest test of those things. A rider would surely want clean, precise engine response as the throttle is opened when in sections.
