Alsport Steen Hodaka Frame Number

Post by hodakanovice »

Good morning all,

I found a frame number on one of the Alsports.
Frame number 2MX2754.

It is a roller, is there a list where I can confirm it's authenticity?

Thank you

I've been playing with the Steen bikes for a couple of years now and from what I can gather there is no written down info, and no-one to ask questions of, unless you can come across an old dealer.

Can you post up a couple of pics? What front end does it use? Forks or leading link? Do you have an exhaust?

Nice exhaust! Easily cleaned up with some Lictite Naval Jelly, a repaint with black engine paint and maybe a rcheoming of the guards! Victor

From what I have been able to gather, this would be a mid production model, early ones had exhaust on the left, later ones went to standard style forks, replacing the leading link forks.

Cool Torque Engineering pipe. Do you know if anyone has reproduced the Torque Engineering decals. They are really cool but are destroyed when you cook and repaint the pipe.

That is really beautiful! I wish I had the means and time to resurrect the ones I have. I don't know what Torque Engineering decals are? Sorry for being unknowledgeable.

Torque Engineering was a company that made aftermarket performance expansion chamber exhaust systems back in the 70's. That metallic blue decal under the rearmost heat shield on your pipe is the decal I'm talking about. Cooking the pipe is the process of burning the carbon deposits and oil residue out of the pipe intermittently with an oxyacetylene torch so it flows better. In the process, the cool logo decal gets destroyed. I'd like to discover a source for replacement because they look really cool (in my geeky opinion).

Oh I get it, I don't know where theses came from. These were part of a group of bikes that was left to me. I suspect that my uncle found them and probably just saved them from being tossed.

I'm sorry about your uncle. That was very nice of him to leave these bikes to you though. In addition to their coolness factor, they are actually quite valuable.

Yeah that is what I have been told. But, I suspect it would be a niche collectors market.

It may be broader than you might think. There are actually three interested camps. The Allsport Steen folks, the Hodaka motor powered motorcycle folks, and the 2-stroke vintage bike crowd. Yours have the cool leading link front suspension which is desirable. Your roller will take an Hodaka Ace 100 motor right now. They are really nice and desirable. Your uncle was pretty cool.

I will have a couple for sale in Athena, 1 leading link, 1 with forks. Both projects.
