Polished transmission gears
Polished transmission gears
I got all my polished parts back today. I have had this done before to a maico transmission and clutch (works great) so I sent a new hodaka transmission and other parts inside the motor off to have isotropic polished. I was reading some more on the polishing service and found out that they could polish the bearings, so off went the bearing as well. I can't describe how slick the gears are put it on the counter shaft and spin it sh#%. It fills like it is going to spin forever. DG

Re: Polished transmission gears
OK so what is the name of the company you sent the gears to and what does something like that cost???? Any idea if any metal is lost in the process??

I think you can find all the answers to your questions at this link. http://www.remchem.com/ I sent my stuff to ACG Enterprises in Oklahoma City 405-634-8656 The cost was $10 per bearing and $160 for all the gears and some of the shifter parts.

Re: Polished transmission gears
Well you should just slightly faster, at least your wallet is slightly lighter, less weight= more speed ?
Re: Polished transmission gears
Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?

Re: Polished transmission gears
Well except for tires on the ground, brakes and clutches friction is not our friend ( well maybe a little bit on the piston rings). So this sounds like a pretty good way to get all the moving parts moving smoothly and the easier they move together the longer they last and the more HP escapes to the rear wheel! Right. So for the price of a few tires it seems like a very good option to consider! So polishing and Teflon coating the pistons and ceramic on the piston domes makes it pretty slick!! It's new fangled science.

I read about pro circuit doing this to there motors in a motocross action article about 3 years ago. If I can remember they got 1 to 1 1/2 hp more to rear wheel.

Cool - interesting how much better NASA says this is as far as longevity is concerned!!!!
Re: Polished transmission gears
This was the first time for me polishing the bearings, Wow spin the front wheel and it just goes and goes....it feels so smooth. After I get this wombat done I will start on a very clean 100B and the first thing I will do is send all the trans and bearing parts off to be polished. DG
