250SL inner pipe fatigue breakage
250SL inner pipe fatigue breakage
At any rate, I'm going to chop off the broken section at the yellow line in the photo. The Skyway silencer has its own spark arrestor function so I'm sure that angle will still be covered.
Any comments or concerns? Thanks, I always like to run these things over with the Hodaka Think Tank.

Re: 250SL inner pipe fatigue breakage
Seems like a reasonable approach to me.

PS: There is the usual caution - the change may have an effect on required jetting. Be attentive to that especially at low throttle setting/high engine speed situations (such as highway cruise).

Keep the rubber side down!
Re: 250SL inner pipe fatigue breakage
As long as you are mounting an after market silencer, I would eliminate the inner pipe entirely. If there is not enough pipe stub to mount the silencer without the inner pipe in place, I would instead add a short stinger to the pipe on which to mount your silencer. This is assuming you have access to a welder and some tube stock if the pipe without a new stinger won't mount the silencer.
The 250 pipe has been shown to be restrictive to begin with. The inner pipe releases exhaust from a point inside of and forward from the otherwise stinger end of the pipe. Not designed to make power that way, and personally, I would think such an arrangement would negate the "tail cone" part of the exhaust as a tuning feature. Not that this exhaust is exactly tuned per se, but as long as you are modifying the system, I would get what I could from it.
