MWL's Project Super Rat

Post by MWL »

I thought I would post some progress pic's of my Super Rat since things are a little slow around here and my project is even slower. Seems like I'll never finish this thing.... It's not going to be a perfect restoration by any means, instead I plan to have some period correct aftermarket parts installed. Still looking for a Webco gas cap.....

Looks like you are further along than me on my perpetual "Day One" project. Anyway, lookin' good so far! What are those rear shocks?

Curnutt shocks. I had them rebuilt by Scott Tremblay. He worked for Curnutt "back in the day".

Here is an ACE Webco gas cap. I have one, but didn't paid that much for it.

I attended the Barber Vintage Festival recently and look what I found at the swap meet! I would say it's the ultimate Webco item for an early Super Rat. The 125 top end appears to be new and never run. The guy I bought it from acquired the motor and other parts from someone else. I would be interested to know who built this motor? Is the original owner or builder reading this?

I think unless you are capable of getting the resisting rims ready for chroming so they don't need any work but dipping, you would find it would cost more for redoing the old wheels than buying these. Chroming prices vary a lot from location to location. The closest Chroming shop to me is I'm ElPaso, and they wanted $45 to rechrome just my Model 03 tool box!

If those wheels are really pitted but you were able to take them apart, grind the pitting smooth and Also remove the remaining rust, I know it would cost around $45-50 a wheel here to rechrome the wheels. So $$$ wize it wouldn't be worth it, unless you wanted to have the original wheels for a restoration and not a rider. ; D Victor
