The correct way to say it is HODOCKA. Clarence

Hey Clarence,
Maybe you ought to make this one a "sticky post" so it's always on top!

When I bought my first Ace 90 from a local dealer in 1965 they pronounced it Hodaaka. When I got my dealership our distributor in Oklahoma pronounced it the same. The're all Hodaakas in southeast Kansas and surrounding areas. I try to say it the right way when talking to foreigners (not from these parts.) Forgive me if I slip when talking to me in person.

Re: Hoducka Hodaaaka saying it correct
In the 1970s when I was first introduced to this brand, it was taught to me as Hodaka with an A "like APPLE". I found out later (although in all fairness and old friend did call it Hodaka with a short "A". I thought he was wrong.
When I made my first pilgrimage to Oregon in 2005, I was corrected with the "open your mouth and say AAAAH" A sound. I think it was Ed Chesnut that was the one.
So I think we here in the East used the Apple A and the West used the doctors request AAAH sound. Not duck.
Vowel sounds in English can drive me nuts. Just my observation.

Here it is in Japanese:
3 syll. ho-da-ka, hod-aka ] The baby boy name Hodaka is pronounced HHOW-D-ahKaa- †. Hodaka's language of origin is Japanese and it is also used mainly in the Japanese language. The name's meaning is 'tall ear of grain'.

Re: Hoducka Hodaaaka saying it correct
So the mountain in Japan which is named Hodaka (namesake of Hodaka Motorcycles) is a "tall ear of grain"? Interesting.
The pronunciation provided was reviewed and approved by all levels at PABATCO before being published in the Resonator - including Maurice Lee (Engineering) who came to PABATCO from his job at the Hodaka factory in Japan. I have some "inside" knowledge on that particular little blurb . . . I wrote it wayeeee back when.

Re: Hoducka Hodaaaka saying it correct
Little off the subject but I am amazed at the number of clerks in automotive stores and even local motorcycle shops that have never heard of a Hodaka. If they are under 50 years old there is a good chance they never heard of it. I just tell them to write it down and search for it on Google when they get home.

It is a hondaB or a wannaB
Re: Hoducka Hodaaaka saying it correct
Rick, I would call it a Hondaka. I installed a 1962 Dodge motor and push button transmission in a 1957 ford when I was 20 years old. I called it a Fodge. Wonderful memories.

Re: Hoducka Hodaaaka saying it correct
In High School, one of my auto-tech-school classmates family owned a junk yard. They pulled a stolen 1958 Corvette out of a water filled quarry that had no engine. He put in a 312 CI Ford V-8 and tranny. Used a Ford rear too. Fast little devil, but I always thought of it as a Frankenstein car.

Larry, I've told you before on the Forum that the Rodaka is one of the coolest bikes ever. Good work! Don't ever sell that thing without calling me.
