Re: Ace 100 fuel oil ratio
Those radio's were back when we did not have real 2 cycle oil. We would go to the auto store and buy a at can of motor oil, then add it to 5 gal gas. It would smoke like he'll and two plugs. The first real 2cycle oil I remember other than bean oil was Stern C. The oil has come a long ways in last 55...

Re: trials modifications, my lucky tips
Set the forks at 23.5 to 25 degrees. The reason I say forms is because some triple trees have some take built into them.

Re: trials flywheel weight
I used a steel (125cc) flywheel to start with. Then I took some round stock and cut it down to the same dia as the flywheel, then I welded it on. From there I cut it down so the case would go on with some room to spare. then I would trying it out and kept cutting the center out till I got the respon...

Re: trials swing arm modifications
I have not or would not add any thing to the swing arm on a Wombat frame. the wombat frame is long enough for trials, you will need to be able to lift the front wheel by hitting the power. the wombat frame to me was the best frame to build a trials bike from. to make the bike handle like a trials bi...

Re: Ace 100 Fuel Mixture/Cooling
Really old school would be 30wt shell oil and 5 gal of gas = 20-1. But i prefer the new oil at 40-1 or leaner. what ever ratio you select stay with it and if it the bike runs to rich put in a smaller jet or too lean put in a larger jet.

Re: Ace 100 Fuel Mixture/Cooling
Ed, It took me awhile the get my head around what you were saying. (So, in terms of carb jetting, 20:1 is "leaner" than 40:1). when it come to mixture you think oil to gas and I think gas to oil. Too much oil can also be a very bad thing also, over heating, fouling plugs and array of other...

Re: trials frame modification; Wombat
If you only change one thing it should be the rake, set it at 23.5-24.5 degrees. This seams to be where the bike likes to turn the best and this is where all the modern bikes are set at. The next thing is moving the foot pegs back and set as low a possible. As far as the motor goes I would use the 1...

Check with your insurance agent. I had this happen a few years back and the agent took my water bill for the last year and they paid everything that was above the normal.

The Suzuki piston and rings are also cheaper than the Hodaka ones. RL parts are not hard to find.

I would not say the welding is good that would be a stretch, adequate would be more like it. Some are better than others.

Just unplug the black wire from the switch, it will start and run with that wire unplugged. BUT it will need a way to stop the motor. (Kill button)

Re: Ace 100 trials project
I think Ed is right, I don't think the weight will fit inside the cover. Also it may be better to make the weight the same dia as the flywheel to get the most out of adding weight. Start out with the most weight that will fit in the case, then test it and keep shaving weight till you get a good bala...

I have to ask, What type of gas was being used with 170psi compression? Pump gas with that kind of compression may cause some heating problems.

I don't know if anyone has said this but the shift pattern on the 5 speed in a ace 90 motor and shift case was 1 up and the rest down.

It's all about the COOL factor. Not sure it would help in cooling. But it is a trials bike, run it slow for a couple of min then turn it off for 15 min. I have seen the fins shaved, grooved, tapered, made longer, heat sinks added and of course drilled (like mine) I'm still not sure it helps much wit...

Kelly, looks good to me! I look forward to seeing it a HD this year. I took the Hodaka foot pegs off and put on modern KX65 or YZ foot pegs. They are shorter and much wider. For me they are much more comfortable to stand on, but I am old and have tender feet.

Ed, Is the 'O" ring channel the same size all the way around? If carb had been vise squeeze I would think that should be deformed also.

I know you are sending the carb to Ed, but did you try taking the cable lose from the throttle and just pulling the cable to see if it sticks.
I will wait for Ed to take a look.

Bill, on your 5 port diagram you have the ports going around the intake port, is there a reason for this? I have seen them go straight up the cylinder or at a slight angle. I have thought about doing this on my trials bike for years but the bike pulls very hard now and I don't want to take a chance ...
