Re: Points grease

This may not help. I bought a tube of point grease back in the 1970's and have used only a tiny amount. It is VERY waxy and barely squeezes out of the tube. I have not seen it at any auto supply for years. One does not smear it on either the cam or the wick. Rather, one puts a match-head size blob o...

Re: Fork Air Caps....

Tuning damping-rod forks with air pressure... First, be sure that the existing seals can tolerate 200-300 psi and are positively located to prevent them from being pushed out of the fork sliders. The original seals or even NOS replacements that have been ageing since the 1970's are likely to fail. T...

Re: Petock Removal Advice

I removed my wombat petcocks after almost 40 years in storage and found no interference from corrosion. Even though I did drain the tank before storage, I first flushed it with some new gas to remove still-liquid oil and next with tri-sodium-phosphate solution to remove solid oxidized oils. Those ar...

Re: 34mm Steering Stem Conversion Pin Query

Conversion to tapered roller bearings is certainly stronger but may be overkill if one is not increasing the bike's mass or that of the fork/wheel. As with family hand-me-downs, I replaced the standard super-light 35mm weight Betor forks on an Ossa Phantom with longer-travel magnesium Marzocchi fork...

Re: Need wiring and switches for Wombat and Ace 100

Thanks for the sources.

We have a wombat that was stored in 1980 and is now being revived.

We have NO clue at all where the original key could be.

It is currently "hot wired" and would not be licenses that way.

Re: Super Combat rubber flange

That is interesting in that the stud spacing on the standard wombat is 48-50mm and there are no standard flanges (including the above) that are an exact fit. For anything bigger than 26mm or to adapt a spigot mount, one has to widen the holes on an aftermarket flange to barely fit over the studs and...

One belief is that Dupuytren's contracture first appeared around 800 among Nordic people. It IS more common among North Europeans and British but somehow occurred in my family which was entirely Italian. It is genetic and sex-linked. It affected all of the male members of my family. I had the same s...

Re: Reeded Combat Wombat Questions

Modern carbs do not lose nearly as much low-end in larger sizes. I am running 1970's vintage 38mm Mikuni's on my 1970's vintage 250s and have enough low-end for trails. Today, people run 38mm carbs on 90's or later 125s and get just enough low-end due to their power-valve exhaust. All of their intak...

Modern carb on wombat

This may serve as an intro but I do have multiple re-animation projects on the same bike and will share them later. Bob I have a wombat with a combat top end and the GEM reed valve that Hodaka sold in the early 70's. Its studs had the same 48-50 mm spacing as for the stock manifold and that worked f...

Re: NGK vs Champion

Champion offered the most extensive source of extended-tip spark plugs. Before the rise of fine-wire electrodes, extended-tip plugs were most resistant to fouling AND expressed a wider heat range. They heated up more from combustion while also cooling more from each new charge. Also, they promoted m...

Re: Ace 100 fuel oil ratio

Back in the 1950's, there were no commercial synthetic oils (although aircraft could use ester oils). Only a few petroleum oils even had detergents. Still, there were some low-residue oils marketed for two-strokes, especially for boats. As oils for four-strokes evolved, so did the two-stroke product...
