Re: Save or Restore?
I believe Emerson was the one to coin "life is a journey, not a destination." It's the same with restoring the motorcycles. Or in my case building a hand controled Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000 X. Rest assured I'm still out there playing with the young ones. Now the toys just happen to have a ca...

Re: Save or Restore?
Wow thank you all for the wealth of knowledge you've shared. I'm a longtime wheelchair user so riding them when finished is only a dream. My business was designing and modifying handicapped equipment for years. Now I have the time to bring the toys of my youth back. Though I raced the other manufact...

Save or Restore?
I received a phone call from a stranger Friday night asking if I would be interested in a Hodaka motorcycle. I agreed to meet up with him on Saturday to take a look. He knew nothing of the bikes history. Purchased it on a whim to try make a few bucks. I believed its a 76 Wombat, and it is frame# M31...

Re: Unicorn?
Byarwin. If you take the existing tank to a graphics shop, they should be able to photograph it and reproduce it by measurement. You can have them reproduced for personal replacement without any issues. I did that with my Road Toads. I got 4 sets for $110 if I remember correctly. :ugeek: Victor You...

Re: Unicorn?
There used to be a guy on ebay out of Ohio that had that style tank decal. I had mine custom made but of a different type. There were several styles, the block type, wide stripes, narrow stripes. IMG_20150816_103548.jpg You did a beautiful job on your STEEN. I have a long road ahead to get there. B...

Re: Unicorn?
I asked the gentleman holding the bike if he would send me a few pictures of the serial numbers. He sent a picture showing the serial number on the motor. Said he couldn't find one on the frame. The tank may be covering it. I tried to look the motor up in Ken's book HODAKA (two thumbs up!) but the n...

Re: Unicorn?
What is your engine number? My data shows 4 different Steens for 1971. Three that are 100 cc, motocross, scrambler and deluxe scrambler all listed as F-100's and a matterhorn that was 50 cc the F-85. 1972 shows only one 100cc motocross bike the X-100, two others were listed as Taco 22 and 22db both...

Re: Unicorn?
The Steen I got from Paul and redid had the lighting kit on it, and the same tank decals, but I did mine up without them, although I still have the parts. I believe the tank may have to be replaced. Were you able to find a emblems package? I have seen the earlier version but I haven't found the one...

Re: Unicorn?
I'm not sure if the enduro was an option or a special build at the request of a customer. One day I hope to find out. I am looking forward to breaking the bike down and matching the parts up with the manufacturers. Or at least attempting to do so. We may find parts of a hidden story there. Shameless...

Unicorn?
Well it may not be a unicorn but it appeared to be a very nice specimen of a 1975 STEEN HODAKA ALSPORT Enduro. I think? I purchased it sight unseen and have yet to get a look at it. The owner said it was a team bike and thought he may have articles telling about its racing years. He's a bit of a hoa...

Re: Engine number question
It's all good about missing the auction. In all reality it was an excuse to go up to Vegas and act like the guys from the Gas Monkey Garage. Lose money at the auction and party too much on the strip. Every one involved on this website and forum rock. You've built a standout community. Thanks for sha...

Re: Engine number question
First my thanks to each of you for answering. I do have a file full of paperwork that came with the motorcycle. The owner kept the receipts for almost everything that had been done to the bike over the years. Let's hope there is an original sales receipt in the mix. Being an intended off-road/racing...

Engine number question
I'm getting ready to list a 1973, 125 Combat Wombat to the January Mecum Auction, Las Vegas. While gathering the frame and engine identification I noticed the second and third engine numbers appeared to be stamped twice. (attached picture) The J01360 comes out clearly. But it looks like it could hav...
