Re: Carburetor
Thank you Clarence. I don’t really have any biker friends nearby or Hodaka friends that I know well enough to help me. I live in the Columbia River Gorge about 2 hours west of Athena. I have that workshop manual you mentioned and I’m gonna try to thoroughly clean the carburetor per Ed’s resonator ar...

Re: Carburetor
All I’m looking for is a bike that will run properly. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything. I have 2 of those old standard wombat carbs that have the same issue. And I’m not wanting to buy yet another old worn out carburetor that leaks and doesnt work correct. I’ve had thoughts of just s...

Carburetor
Anyone used a combat wombat carburetor on a model 94 wombat? I’ve searched the forum, but didn’t come up with any answers or ideas. I wanted to replace my stock carburetor (that has leaking issues around an ill fitting fuel line fitting that keeps loosening up) with a brand new clean one and I bough...

Model 94 carburetor
Hello, I seem to be having a slight issue with my wombat carburetor. The brass inlet fitting piece that goes in the carb that the fuel line slips over keeps popping up and loose. I’ve tried tapping it in to tighten it with no success. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this issue? And would this make...

Crankshaft
I have my 72 Wombat engine cases apart and old bearings removed. Just wondering if it is a good idea to have a new bearing and rod installed on my crank while I have everything apart? Or if it’s ok to keep running it the way it is? It has minimal side to side play and I can’t feel any up and down. I...

Newbie crank bearing question
Hello everyone. I purchased a 72 model 94 Wombat last year at Hodaka Days and I’ve done a leakdown test on the engine and found that the left side crank seal is leaking. Also noticed that there is some slight up and down movement in that crank bearing when I move the end of the crankshaft up and dow...

Re: Super rat date!!!!
Hmm that could be a problem... maybe check the number stamped on the right front of the engine or frame number stamped on the left upper rear of the frame and compare it to the list on Strictly Hodaka. Might give an idea...

Re: Super rat date!!!!
Not sure of all the super rats, but on the chrome tank ones there should be a tag riveted to the front of the steering head of the frame. Has the year and month of production.

Re: Crank bearings
So I have been practicing on an old G5 Kawasaki engine with my heat gun. It works real good! Freeze the bearing and heat the case to about 230 degrees. I gave bearing slight tap and it fell right in. Nice and smooth turning. No binding. Heated to remove old bearing. Slight tap with a socket and bear...

Re: Crank bearings
I have a heat gun. But I think I could find a toaster oven for not too much $$. Does the oven work better because it heats the whole case and not dissipate by concentrating on one spot with the gun?

Re: Crank bearings
Does the case need to be warmed for installing? Or will freezing shrink the bearing enough to fall in with the case at room temp?

Crank bearings
Another question for you guys. How do you all go about removing and installing crank bearings? I have never messed with internal parts of engines, so just trying to get some ideas of what works well and what doesn't. I do have a shop manual, but would like input from experience!
Thanks,
Ryan
Thanks,

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.
Man I have been so close for monthes to finishing Victor! Just little things keep hampering, but I can't give up now! I'm kind of a perfectionist, so I get fussy! Got another bike to redo this winter also. 69 DT-1 Yamaha. Not gonna spend as much on that one though. Gave myself a budget to try and st...

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.
I'm a little intimidated by tearing into the engine, but I'm sure I can do it. And it's how I would learn such a thing. Probly a good idea to get a rebuild package with bearings and gaskets and seals? Not be cheap and just redo it while I have it open. I found another case half with studs still in t...

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.
Should I just try to get another case? I'm not sure how I would go about having someone else do the repair. And that repair in itself may cost more than finding a decent used case and putting new studs in it

It's the front hole on the right hand case. I am in the Columbia River Gorge across from Hood River, Oregon.

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.
So would a helicoil work alright for this repair? And still chase the other threads with a tap?

I think it has to be stripped. Just turns now. Not grabbing anything.

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.
Right back to square one. Base gasket puking now. And the stud won't hold the torque. I just had to walk away. Lol.

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.
I know this probly sounds crazy, but would it be possible to add more threads to a new stud? Just trying to think of ideas for a temporary fix for now.

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.
Ok so I turned the studs back around. Base gasket leak goes away, but the head won't tighten on that one corner now. It's like the longer threads were able to reach further down and tighten up. Would it be possible to find a stud with longer threads on each end? Or do I have to try and fix the hole?...

Uh oh. I put the longer end into the cases. Maybe I made a mistake there!

Re: Another rookie question and possible mistake.
Maybe it's possible I didn't get them tight enough into the cases! I was trying to be careful and not damage anything. So I didn't go too tight with them.
