Rebuild

Post by SuperRat2110 »

Hey guys, looking at having my 98 rat motor redone by a pro. Anyone have any general info on Hodaka dave? Cost mostly. I'm sure his abilities are not an issue. Any info appreciated.

These two that where recommended, are a the top of the Hodaka World of Hodaka engine builders but there are others, what part of the country do you live in, maybe there might be one closer to you that can be recommended as well. The reason I mention this you may have to try and find another builder, because being at the top sometimes they may already be filling other builds and not knowing what you time frame is, it might be good to know where you are. I'm on Wisconsin. Not sure of anyone around here that specializes is hodaka specifically. So yeah, time isn't a big deal as I'm not in a hurry. I guess I'm more interested in how much I should expect to pay.

You can't go wrong with anyone who is recommended here. As far as cost goes everyone I've talked to is reasonable and they care about your engine. And finally the money you spend on labor won't be a drop in the bucket by the time you are done. And if you're like most of the folks here as soon as one is finished another one is in the works. ;)

I recently had issues with a cylinder I was told by the seller was .020 over. It wasn’t. When I put thd cylinder over the piston I barely even had to squeeze the rings to get the cylinder on. Compression tests were only coming up 90 psi at best.

I sent my cylinder, piston & rings to Terry & Hodaka Dave for confirmation. Turns out she had to be bored & I needed yet another top end rebuild kit. Even with postage, Terry & Hodaka Dave did Right by me, took care of the issues and returned everything ready to mount & run. My Road Toad started on the second kick!!! You can’t go wrong with Hodaka Dave! :ugeek: Victor

I just had a crankshaft rebuilt by Hodaka Dave and his rates are very reasonable with great service.

Without exception or reservation, I highly recommend Hodaka Dave. I'm sure many of the other Hodaka master mechanics are great as well, but my experience with Hodaka Dave has demonstrated again and again his work is impeccable and his rates are very fair.

Just one more name to through in the ring for more options would be Danny Cooke. If you go to the archives page and look for the post titled New Combat Wombat build you can see his work. Like all the others mentioned it is top notch. Like Geary said, whoever you choose from the above mentioned will be a good choice.
