Strictly Hodaka, this site, sells repo Hodaka plastic tanks. You could search Ebay and the internet for a used steel red or chrome tank, but I think the plastic tank will give you the best service.

I think one of the biggest improvements was the new head that gives it better cooling. He has changed the timing a bit, but go back and look at the modifications. He could better explain it to you than I could.

On his original ride, he rode a 175. But you are right, the extra CCs help. That is why he built and modified a 250 Hodaka bike in the first place.
As far as arriving early, I am sure he is on schedule since he is planning visit California first.
