Ester pre-mix oil

Greetings from AZ.

I'm looking for input from anyone who might like to share their opinion or recommendation on the use of "ester" oils in their Hodaka's fuel.
Also- Can anyone tell me what the difference is in Castor and Ester? (Just curious)

Thanks

Re: 34mm conversion

Thanks Rich Did you lengthen the swingarm in addition to moving the shock mounts? You mentioned earlier that you had "banana-ed" it. Does that mean that the end is angled upward slightly? My questions, to anyone who done these mods, is, how much better do your bikes handle in comparison to...

Re: 34mm conversion

Rich Is there a way to determine which springs I have? Mine are 17 5/8" long, and there is a 1 1/8" spacer. The person I bought these forks from told me that they where from a Wombat, but did not specify which model. I'm thinking that the forks that I have are from an 03 Wombat. The other W...

With a 34mm fork conversion, what rear suspension changes would work best?
Thanks for your input.

Re: 34mm conversion

I was told that the forks and triple clamps that I have, where taken from a wombat. The steering stem measures 7 3/4" from the bottom of the lower race to the top. Is this the correct length for the 01 frame? It also has the correct races for my application if I am not mistaken.

34mm conversion

Greetings

Can anyone tell me what would be involved in installing 34mm Hodaka forks on a model 01 Dirt Squirt? Is this a workable mod for this bike, or is it better suited to the 125's?

Thanks

Re: Hole to nowhere

I don't have an answer to Thirdstone's original question but I find it interesting to read all of the various theories about the reasons why the hole was put there. I do, however, have something to add about the RT case passage and corresponding hole in the cylinder that BrianZ mentioned. I have thr...

Rod repair

Is there any reliable way to repair a worn out wrist pin hole in a model 99 connecting rod? I suspect that a new rod kit is the only solution.

Thanks

30mm fork mods

I just finished a 30mm fork modification as described in the technical tips section. I plugged the original oil passage and drilled three new ones above the metal clip, installed a longer spring and modified the damper rod. What I am unclear about is what to do with the plastic spacer. The instructi...

Re: Model 98 compression

Thanks Ed I did a compression test and came up with 148 lbs. I assume that the number will come up a bit with a little running time and the ring gets seated, which should get me into the 150-160 range. I also found that site you mentioned, and if anyone is interested, it is "www.puregas.org"...

Re: what model do i have

The model 99 has a 19 inch front and 17 inch rear wheel and the 02 has a 21 inch front and and 18 inch rear. The 99 kick lever is curved to the front and the 02 lever is straight and is angled to the back. The 99 gas tank is the old style traditional shape and the 02 tank is more angular and bolts t...

Model 98 compression

Hello all
Can anyone tell me what the correct compression for a 98 Super Rat should be with a fresh top end?
Also, can I use pump gas, or should I use race fuel or possibly AV gas?

Thanks

Re: No rings Ace 100

Are there nuts on the clutch screws? If so, you need to toss them and use safety wire. There should be holes drilled in the ends of the screws for this purpose. I can hardly imagine the internal engine damage that would result when those nuts unscrewed themselves.

This particular bike is on e-#%@ , and you might notice It has a most unusual way of mounting the pipe. Maybe it has one of those very rare swiveling header pipes. :?

Re: Another 250SL back from oblivion

Darrell Thanks for the shield repair info. Sounds like a solid fix. As for the brake cable, I am sending a photo of the routing as suggested by the manual. With the cable in front of the speedo, the cable can loop over the speedo on fork compression, and cause an instant "endo" when the fo...

Re: Another 250SL back from oblivion

Darrell Great restoration! I like how you attached the heat shield.I restored one of these last fall and it's shield had three broken and cracked mounting welds. I wish I had thought of doing it that way before I spent way too much time trying to re-weld through the holes in the shield. You might wa...

My 250 SL shocks measure 15 1/2" eye to eye fully extended.
I think that Paul has stock SL shocks in his inventory at a reasonable price.

Can any one help me with determining the correct metric conversions for 3.50x18 and 3.00x21 inch knobby tires? I am building a 98 super rat and would like to get the best size for my project.

Re: Model 98 Super Rat gear selector shaft end clip

The coin and washer did not work for me because you need to have something that fits inside the counter shaft. May be the coin method works on older models. What did work for me was that I drilled a hole just a bit larger than the control shaft, length wise in a large bolt. Put the counter shaft int...
