Hodaka Wiring

Hello and HELP! I have a 1976 Wombat 125. It's a Model 03 frame but a Model 94 motor. I've been working steadily on this bike for the past 3 months, and little by little have been making it a nice bike again. It came with no lights except an aftermarket tail light which was not connected. So I have a couple of questions.

1. The tail light wiring has a green and brown (brake and running?) and a black which I assume is ground. There was also a green and brown wire pair running back to the rear fender. I spliced the green to green and brown to brown. I had to add a non Hodaka brake light switch because I couldn't find an OEM. So the black wire I connected through the switch and then to a ground wire input on the wiring harness. Will the tail/brake light work correctly in this configuration?

2. There was also a green and brown wire pair up by the steering head for the headlight. It was partially connected to what is left of the main wiring harness under the gas tank. There was no light on the bike. She has a combo kill/light switch with four wires coming off her. There is a yellow, a brown, a light blue and a black. Not sure which are for the kill switch and which are for the headlight control. Again, I'm assuming the light switch is a high/low beam switch. And, there is no AC/Off/DC switch on the headlight bucket. I need to know how to connect the existing wiring so the headlight will work. I bought a used headlight assembly on eBay and it has three wires. Green, light Blue and white, or at least that's what they look like.

The bike was stripped down for off road use with no battery, and it appears a lot of the wiring harness which wasn't used was either cut off or unplugged and removed. So I need to know where to go with the headlight and tail light wiring in order to get the lights working correctly and hopefully not having to buy a replacement wiring harness.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I should have the fuel tank back from paint today and would like to be able to finish up the wiring. I also need to add a horn and don't know if there is any existing connections for a horn as well. If there isn't, where might I be able to connect a horn?

Edit - Oh yeah. I forgot to say this bike has no ignition switch, no speedo, no turn signals and none of the wiring for these items also.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide!

- Victor

Oh wow.. somebody really hacked your wiring... A wiring diagram for an 03 Wombat can be found here: http://www.strictlyhodaka.com/v/vspfile ... atwire.jpg

Based on what you've described and what should be, I think it would be much more prudent to just start over. Since you are using a 94 engine, a model 94A wiring harness and the model 94/94A key switch will solve your issues, (both can be found on eBay). You'll have to add the Neutral switch indicator and kill switch circuits to it though. (In the future, if you decide to replace the engine with a correct engine, you'll need to replace the harness and key switch again too). The 94 key switch is necessary because the model 94 magneto is wired for a 3-position key switch where the 03 is a 2-position switch. I'm sure it can be adapted, but I'd have to study it a little more when I get some time.

I'll keep studying the diagrams to see if there is an easier fix, but I think the 94A harness and switch is the best solution in your case. (oh.. and the 94 and 94A harnesses are the same except the 94A adds turn signal circuitry)
