03 porting spec

Post by DGardner »

I would like to put a 03 cylinder on my 94 bottom end and was wondering if someone had some good porting spec's? I would use it for the road with some off road use. Thanks DG

For the road / trail you should be able to use the stock 03 porting. Its a reed cylinder so you will need a 97 style piston with transfer holes in the rear. As its a wider aluminium cylinder you should use a 95 head . Don`t use the 97 head as it will provide too much compresion with the stock 03 exhaust port . You could use the 94 head but it will look silly.
The 03 cylinder is a great platform for porting and it depends on how nuts you want to go so I`ll leave it up to the pro`s to comment on.

No need to do any porting for your intended use. I would have to say that you should use a Model 03 cylinder head. Compression will be too high with a Model 95 cylinder head.

Whar pipe are you going to use ? You dont NEED revised porting , its a matter of what do you want the machine to run like . I would suggest putting it together ans see if your happy with it. If not blue print porting is always a plus . Equalizing the transfer port and boost port heights makes it crisper , also the rear of the transfer ports can be re directed for improved response and torque as well as the exaust port shape modified . All of these mods just make a better rider.

Rich I was thinking about running one of Paul's pipes and a 28mm mikuni carburetor.

Which pipe ? Ht 3 or ? With a reed you wont suffer any bottom end with a 32mm carb . But what do you want this bike to do ?
