250ED shocks

Post by rtboone »

Greetings all
Can any one tell me if the 250ED shocks can be rebuilt, and if they can be, where I might source new seals? Would these shocks perform any better than stock 03 or 250SL units?
Thanks

Yes they are rebuildable , I have done several sets . And no good for an sl 250 , too short and too soft for that bike

If you install an ED swing arm on your 250 SL, they will work.

You can rebuild the 250 KYB shocks from a 250 ED. Hodaka Dave did mine for a reasonable price. They are shorter than the 03 or 250sl shock. I have a set of rebuilt 250Ed shocks on my Super Combat and prefer them over the Works shocks on my Combat Wombat. I think the shocks go in this order. 13.5 inches for the chrome Ace or Wombat shocks, 14.25 inches for the 250Ed and 15.5 for the 250SL. The SL shocks are not rebuildable.

Greetings all

I forgot to mention that I am planning to use the shocks on my 03 project. I have a set of 03 shocks(left) that still have some gas pressure- one a bit more than the other with no apparent oil leaks- a set of 250ED shocks (center) and a single shock right) that has a different spring ( possibly from a 97 )
These all measure 14 1/4" eye to eye and I'm assuming that the aluminum bodies are the same.
Can anyone tell me where to get seals for the aluminum bodies? I'd like to give both sets a try to see which works best.

Thanks for your input

Tom
