Exhaust gasket

Just received my exhaust gasket from SH. Thanks Paul for the gasket. I was wondering if it matters about the correct mounting side. Does it matter which side the gasket mounts to the pipe and head? Both sides of the gasket look about the same. If anything, one side appears to be a little more slick and smooth than the other. Also, should I use a gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket when mounting the pipe or just one?
Thanks, Marty

just a follow up question. Do I neccesarily need to use a gasket sealer at all? should the gasket be applied dry?

It does not matter which side is out or in. The gasket seals because it is a made of soft copper and "crushes" when tightened. No gasket sealer is necessary because of this.
